Baby Breathing Monitors?

Anyone have any experience/ recommendations for baby breathing monitors please?

We were pretty much set on buying the Babysense 7 (link below) as we really like the idea of the plates under the mattress rather than clipping something onto baby but have just realised before buying that as we have Shnuggle Air Crib (ie with no cot style bars) that the wires from the plates to the monitor would have to run up the inside of the crib which we wouldn’t be keen on as baby could grab them when they get a bit more active.

Any advice much appreciated! 😊

I bought an angelcare under the mattress monitor for my first 4 years ago.
Make sure you do your research on it as I ended up never using it! They weren't suitable for moses baskets or the crib we had, so my daughter couldn't have used it until she moved into her cot, which was 5 months... by which time, I'd sort of gotten over the anxiety of her not breathing!

I would hope they have improved over the last 4 years, but I just thought I should share as I learned the hard way!! ;-)

CoffeeMonkey · 14/05/2021 16:44

Thanks @SillyBry that’s exactly what we have realised just before we clicked the ‘buy’ button, that it won’t work in our crib or moses basket 😔

I didn't even realise and then when I did was like why the heck do they design it like this?! Once they get into a cot and roll about, they don't stay on the pad anyway!

I believe there are some good ones you can clip to the nappy :-)

I had an angelcare one and really rated it. Yeah it’s annoying when the alarm goes off because they’ve rolled over but it shows it works!

I have the Nanny monitor.

I loved my Angel care, it brought huge peace of mind.

CoffeeMonkey · 17/05/2021 16:42

Thanks everyone, we’ve decided to go with the Snuza Hero which clips on baby’s nappy, bit different to the under mattress plate style of the Babysense we had originally planned to purchase but will hopefully do the trick!

We had the Snuza! We thought it worked well, we did have the odd false alarm where it had slipped but it was worth it for the peace of mind if it gave us.

Jessesgirl13 · 17/05/2021 16:53

We had the snuzza up until 6 months then moved to the angel care once he was sleeping in a cot.

The snuzza is easier when they're younger as you pick them up a lot more during the night. But once they are more active (rolling etc) then we found it best to move to a sensor pad x

Flittingaboutagain · 17/05/2021 16:53

We've bought a Snuza because of their link with the Lullaby Trust for SIDS whereas all the others seems to be hit and miss.

PivotPivotPivottt · 17/05/2021 17:00

I had a Snuza Hero and really rate it. I had one false alarm which made me jump out the bath with my heart in my mouth but she had just gone up a size in nappy that day so I think I just hadn't positioned it correctly on her nappy. Other than that it was God send for me. I had a bad birth with her and was so worried something would happen I don't know how I would have ever slept with out the Snuza. It makes a tickong sound with every breath I loved that sound Blush. I used it until she was 10 months by which time it kept falling off it was really hard for me to stop. I actually sent it to a Mumsnetter I hope she got the same peace of mind from it that I did.

Ticking

CoffeeMonkey · 17/05/2021 18:06

Ah thanks so much ladies, great to hear some good reviews, hoping we can get the same piece of mind you all did 😊

Just realised the other post I just commented on is yours too.. small world 😂 that’s the one I’ve decided to go for. It might be a bit inconvenient having it clipped on but it sounds like the fact it vibrates and actually tries to do something about it rather than just setting off an alarm is a positive
sarah13xx · 17/05/2021 22:14

@PivotPivotPivottt sounds ridiculous maybe but did you take this to hospital with you? Did you only use it for night time sleep or did you use it during the day for naps/ when in the car etc? Thanks, that’s the one we’ve gone for

LoFiSliceOfLifeAnimeLoop · 17/05/2021 22:25

Snuza Hero was brilliant for us. I think we even had two because I misplaced the first one under the bed one morning and was straight onto Amazon to order another that morning!

No I didn't take it into hospital I actually didn't purchase it until the day I was discharge so had a full night at home practically sleepless watching her. It was a last minute decision to buy one as I had quite a scary birth but had I thought of it beforehand I would have took it in to hospital with me.

I didn't use it for naps because I could check on her constantly (and I held her for most of her naps 🙄). I didn't drive at the time so didn't have her in a car much but I don't think I would advise using it in a car as I think bumps in the road etc could maybe cause it to move positions and I imagine that alarm going off could cause a dangerous emergency stop Blush.
