Pre eclampsia scared

So I went to the antenatal unit today and my blood pressure was high so I had to have a blood test and it came back as a medium chance of developing pre eclampsia in the next 2 weeks so I have to go to hospital twice a week for blood pressure checks and I’ve being given tablets to lower my blood pressure but it has left me so shaken up and terrified I was wondering has anyone else had this or similar

How many weeks are you? I developed severe pre eclampsia in my first pregnancy and it was caught at 37 weeks full blown, I got induced. It’s great you’ve been diagnosed so promptly before it has properly developed and are getting treatment - you’ll be closely monitored and if it gets worse suspect they will want to deliver. My induction was fast too - high blood pressure typically makes labour faster.

I’m 32+4 weeks I have to go to hospital twice a week to be monitored, it’s just so scary

I was monitored with pre eclampsia and ended up being admitted on ward for 2 weeks then induced. The thing I found hardest was going for a check up then they decided to admit me, so I went for what I expected to be a monitoring appointment then they said 'we're admitting you ' ...I went through another door and was on the ward. I had no bag or anything with me and was psychologically unprepared. But it's for the best, I was continually monitored and then induced.

It's good news that it's been picked up early
I'm a preeclampsia risk and been on asprin since 12 weeks
Hopefully the medication they've put you on sorts it's out
Good luck and hope everything settles for you soon Thanks

I had pre eclampsia in my last pregnancy - try not to worry too much.

If you're only at the monitoring twice weekly stage and not medicated then that's a good sign. They will keep a really close eye on you and will be more than happy to see you at triage if you're concerned.

whataballbag · 12/05/2021 21:54

And medicated that's meant to say! It will work to keep your bp down

I had hypertension and developed preeclampsia at the end of my pregnancy. Me and baby were fine and I was able to have a home birth. I'm still on labetalol and probably will be for a few weeks yet. Do you have protein in your urine now? I've not heard of the test to predict you getting preeclampsia. I just had various things in my blood measured like protein, platelets, and they used those measurements, along with other symptoms to diagnose me. If you do develop preeclampsia they will advise you to have an induction once you turn 37 weeks.

This is a really good point, would recommend taking an overnight bag with you whenever you go in to be monitored just in case - I also got caught out going in to be checked up and admitted.

I developed high blood pressure around the same time in pregnancy, had regular monitoring in antenatal clinic, developed swelling and was put in the hospital for 6 days prior to delivery at 37+5,I had induction.
All was fine, speedy delivery and a bit of high BP after birth which made me feel a bit uncomfortable (I was hoping it will resolve straight after birth but it took a while).

Grumpasaurus · 12/05/2021 22:08

I had it. It was discovered, monitored via GP for two weeks (from 29-31 weeks) and then I was admitted to hospital at 31 weeks. Mine became unmanageable at 34+5 so was given an EMCS.

It felt scary at the time but I was very well taken care of. My best advice is listen to your body; if you feel off or unwell get seen immediately. Equally don't resist if you need to be admitted- that way they can pick up any concerns immediately (as they did with me).

@CrazyOldBagLady they said my wee was clear and that I haven’t developed it yet just that I have a medium chance of developing it.

Thank you all for the reply’s and the reassurance though I was so shaken up leaving hospital because I hear so many bad story’s about it
