Having covid vaccine tomorrow and freaking out!

Hi all, no real questions I suppose, but just having a wobble about getting the covid vaccine. I've watched the Stella Creasy webinar which was really useful and read absolutely everything I can find about the mrna vaccines (despite being totally unscientifically-minded) and had come to the decision to have the vaccine which I'd been pretty secure in. But now it's the night before and I'm freaking out about the unknowns of vaccine and whether it could.potentially harm the baby. I'm 34 weeks so hopefully the baby is pretty well cooked by now and having a planned c section which is playing into my decision to have the vaccine especially as my hospital had amongst the highest rate of covid cases in the country during both waves and I want both myself and the baby to have some level of antibodies when we are in there.

I'm having the Moderna, I don't know if that is making me a bit more nervous because it's new here in the UK but my GP advised it would be several weeks before I could get my hands on the Pfizer and I want enough time for antibodies to build up for the baby so don't want to have it too close to the due date.

I don't really know what I'm asking, just blurting concerns on paper really!! I'd be v grateful to hear from anyone who has had the vaccine tho to put my mind at rest!

Moderna is very widely used on pregnant women in the USA, theres been studies now showing that babies of vaccinated mothers have been born with their own covid antibodies which is great! I had the Pfizer vaccine but would have had no problem taking Moderna either, they're very similar AFAIK.

I haven’t had the vaccine - but have been weighing it up all week. I’m figuring I’ll get an invite in the next month or so, so I need to decide.
My conclusion was that I wanted to wait til 34+ weeks to let baby be well cooked, just in case. And I’ve not found a single shred of evidence to suggest there would be any developmental harm, it’s just my paranoia.
It sounds like you are making the right decision - please don’t worry about it 😘

I'm a biologist and work in research for new medicines, for over 20 years, and know a fair bit about mRNA. Not worked on vaccines, but am very comfortable to get the vaccine to protect my baby and I (as soon as I can get an appointment, and I'm 13 weeks now).

Of course it is individual choice and good to carefully consider these things, but for what it's worth I think you are making a good choice.
