I brought my August baby home in a long sleeved vest(bodysuit). It was absolutely boiling.

Checkingout811 · 11/05/2021 17:57

Congratulations & good luck!

A vest and a babygro/sleep suit will be fine. You can put a blanket over the car seat if it's at all chilly.

Think about your coming home outfit too. I had comfy black leggings and vest and a long bum covering cardigan. The midwives took a picture of us all leaving together and it's one of my favourites 🥰

LakeShoreD · 11/05/2021 18:01

I’d pack vest, babygrow, cardi, hat and a cellular blanket to go over them in the car seat. You can make the call on the day based on the weather. I had a summer heatwave baby and she left hospital in a short sleeved vest, babygrow and a hat. For you something comfy like a loose dress that can be worn with or without leggings and shoes you can easily slip on as bending down to do laces after c-section is no joke!

Puntastic · 11/05/2021 18:01

Onesie/babygro. I didn't pack any for my summer born because it was so hot and then the midwives got all disapproving and rustled up a hat and insisted on 2 million in blankets. They're used to 37 degree temperatures inside you, so unless the ambient temperature exceeds that they'll still need a vest and onesie.

Girlmama3 · 11/05/2021 18:01

Maybe get a big muslin? Aden and Anais do some lovely ones. They’re great when Its hot as the baby might still need something light. Or double it up if you want it a bit warmer. I used to swaddle dd2 in hers x

Puntastic · 11/05/2021 18:02

And a hat!

Hollywhiskey · 11/05/2021 18:03

Bring loads. We weren't very good at putting nappies on properly while we were in hospital (ok my husband, but he was gentleman enough that I didn't change my in those few days) so the baby pooed over every single outfit and blanket we brought. She came home in December in a short sleeved vest and borrowed hospital blanket because that was all we had left.

BraxtonChic · 11/05/2021 18:06

Mine came home in an outfit the hospital gave me because none of the new born stuff I had bought fitted (too small, he was a long baby!).

Take a couple of sizes of sleepsuits just in case Smile

This is absolutely me too! 😂 Due the first week in August and feel like it’s going to end up being the hottest week of the year and I have no clue what babies wear in the heat 🙈 Also don’t even know what size he’ll be so I’ve ended up with 5 vests in newborn, 5 in 0-3 months, 5 baby grows in both sizes (with the hand mits and feet) then a few different outfits he could wear home 🙈 got one small cardigan if he needs that for over the outfit and a kind of light blanket to put over the car seat. I am clueless!

sarah13xx · 11/05/2021 21:02

The baby academy course said they should wear one more layer than you so that made me panic a bit less 🙈

sarah13xx · 11/05/2021 21:03

Also been told to take flip flops for the shower and I’m having a section and heard people say your feet swell up so much you should wear slip on shoes like sandals or flip flops home because you won’t get your feet into anything else!

Checkingout811 · 11/05/2021 21:14

@sarah13xx flip flops defo! My feet didn’t swell with c section but I have lots of tips!

  • peppermint tea & mints - the trapped wind is HORRENDOUS
  • loose fitted dress / high waisted leggings and top to come home in - nothing that sits on your scar
  • as above for massive knickers - the biggest you can find
  • flip flops to help with the beautiful surgical stockings you’ll have to wear during the hot summer month 😂
Checkingout811 · 11/05/2021 21:17

@sarah13xx you will be absolutely fine! I wouldn’t bother taking 0-3 to the hospital. My youngest was 7lb and newborn was huge on him. Take some first size which tends to be a bit smaller than newborn, just incase.
If you’re having a c section, take 3 days worth of everything just incase you stay for 2 nights. Sometimes they keep you 2 nights if it’s your first section and if you’re trying to establish breastfeeding.
Don’t forget a little cotton hat for baby to wear when he is born.
Scratch mitts, incase he just comes home in a vest.

sarah13xx · 11/05/2021 21:24

@Checkingout811 thanks, have heard about the peppermint thing! I absolutely hate flavoured teas so hoping I can find some sort of capsules that will do the same job! got very loose high waisted joggers and huge lovely granny pants 🙈 will take a loose dress too in case I don’t want anything near it at all. I was presuming they were putting everyone out after 24 hours just now, even with a section, but my friend just had a baby and they kept her in a second night and that wasn’t a section so going to be over prepared just in case. Will leave another bag packed with stuff at home for my husband to bring in if I’m staying longer. I’m sure I’ll still forget something 🙈

Checkingout811 · 11/05/2021 21:31

You’ll be fine, lists lists lists!! I do love a list 😂
Yea, I’m sure Holland & Barrett do capsules actually. Would really recommend taking some form of peppermint though. I was in agony on the journey home with shoulder pain. It was worse than the pain from my wound.
Hopefully you’ll be a 1 night and home but best to prepare for every eventuality.

sarah13xx · 11/05/2021 21:44

@Checkingout811 have heard it’s quite often your shoulder that ends up hurting with it, so weird! Only 27 weeks but going to have my bag sitting ready by about next week, paranoid I go early 😂 got placenta praevia so there’s a chance they’ll need to do it before 39 weeks. Best to be prepared 🙈🤷🏼‍♀️

Checkingout811 · 11/05/2021 21:52

Oh no, I hope you’re doing okay. If you do need to have him before 39, don’t let anyone scare you about the steroid injections. I needed them with DC3 as he had to be born at 38 weeks and had people telling me they were horrific etc. Completely fine.
These next 12 weeks will fly by! Does he have a name?

sarah13xx · 11/05/2021 22:05

@Checkingout811 I’m still feeling completely fine thankfully 😊 literally wouldn’t know I was pregnant other than the bump slowly expanding every day 😂 that’s good then. Have seen another post about them! I know, getting very real now. Think he’s called Harris (we’re in Scotland) but it’s not definite so I don’t actually refer to him as it yet 😂

Checkingout811 · 11/05/2021 22:41

Oh brilliant! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy. Love the name Harris!
