IUI/IVF babies?

Is anyone having a baby conceived after fertility treatment?

Just asking as I had my booking appointment today and they’ve offered extra scans, extra midwife appointments and said that my care will be consultant-led because my baby was conceived via IUI. She said they wouldn’t let me go overdue either.

I queried it with the midwife and she said it’s standard to have that extra input. My pregnancy is low-risk and we only used IUI because we’re both female and needed the sperm, so it wasn’t fertility issues that led us here.

Naturally I’m delighted to have extra input. Just curious to hear if anyone else has been (or is) in a similar position?

I had my IVF baby a couple of weeks ago and was consultant led for that reason, like you there was no medical reason for the IVF so I was always asking for the evidence behind things like induction. Apparently the risk is due to the placenta failing and this can't be attributed just to older women having fertility treatments etc, I'm not sure if IUI is the same?

Look up the BRAIN technique for asking questions, and remember they can't insist on induction etc - you need to consent! My pregnancy was smooth sailing and baby was doing well so I was happy to go to 41 weeks with my consultants agreement. In the end I was induced as my waters broke but nothing happened so I did have to go with the flow. Keep an open mind and ask the right questions and you'll be grand, good luck

@Parkandride

That’s interesting, and good to know I’m not the only one in the boat.

I’m sure the consultant will explain things when I speak to them in a few weeks, no doubt I’ll have lots of questions about this.

It’s reassuring as I know I’ll be in good hands with them, just a bit unexpected as the IUI was unmedicated and my body did everything “naturally”. I had no drugs or procedures whatsoever. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Glad to hear your new arrival is doing well!

You mentioned there was no medical reason for the IVF...was it just your preference to go down that route?

We were avoiding a genetic condition so did PGD IVF which is a bit unusual, as far as we know we're perfectly fertile!

I'm sure you'll be in great hands and the extra appointments are nice to see and hear baby more Smile

I'm currently pregnant via IVF and will be consultant led due to previous c-section.

However no extra scans or appointments were mentioned.

I have a consultant apt at 16 weeks and then 28 weeks, so it's not exactly a packed schedule!

I'm 37 weeks with an IVF pregnancy. I also had severe OHSS.

I was consultant lead until 20 weeks (consisted of 2 very brief phone calls in total) but then signed back to the midwives as I was considered low risk by that stage. No additional intervention based on it being IVF and no plan for induction at 40 weeks, although some Trusts do have this policy.

I have asked for some additional monitoring for my own peace of mind, & that's been supported. I'm having an extra scan at 39 weeks and I'll take it from there. I'm hoping to avoid an induction if I can.

@Parkandride Ah I see. Yeah, absolutely delighted to have more frequent opportunities to see and hear the baby. Also feeling good about not going overdue; this is my first baby but I know how uncomfortable people get.

@Nichola2310 yeah that doesn’t sound too busy. The midwife suggested to me today that I’d see them every 5 weeks or so, and the consultant roughly on the same schedule. The extra scans were (I think) mid-20 weeks, 32, 35 and 38 weeks.

I am pregnant via ivf, as I am a low risk pregnancy my care is midwife led. I have been advised that different trusts have different protocols.
