Hi all

I’m due 8th November with DC2. My results have come back 1 in 658 (I’m 31). With DC1 I was 1 in 10000.

I’ll call the midwife to ask, I know it’s low risk still but the big drop has me worried so I’m looking at a NIPT test like Harmony.

Does it give a more accurate result than the NHS? Am I being really silly?

Appreciate any advice.

Thanks

99.9% chance your baby doesn’t have DS.
I think your worrying as the numbers have dipped from DC1.
1/658 is really good and I’d be happy with that.
The tests would be more accurate if it was to give you peace of mind.

I was in the same situation earlier this year and did the Harmony test. I'm glad I did, I felt so much better afterwards. It's pricey but worth it for peace of mind. As I understand it, it's a lot more accurate. The results came back very different to the NHS test and there's an option to find out the sex too!

Bluebell9 · 11/05/2021 14:03

I had 1 in 18 chance DD had DS.

I had the Harmony test and it came back 1 in 50,000.

If you are going to worry about it, I'd have the test to but your mind at ease.

Thank you. @Astronaut8 I think that’s exactly it. Just such a big drop in not very long. I know it’s still such a low chance.

@LittleCatDog good to hear! So glad it out your mind at ease. Did you get a lower chance result then I’m assuming?

0.15% chance of DS so basically incredibly good odds your baby won’t have DS.

NHS tests super accurate, basically a combination of analysing certain proteins in your blood, your age, weight and the NT size of your baby on the scan.

The NIPT tests analysis your blood and look for fragments of baby’s DNA to test for the abnormalities. More accurate but not diagnostic.

I don’t think you have anything to worry about. FWIW my combi screening came back 1/87 for Edwards Patau however the NIPT came back 1/10000 currently 25 weeks with no issues so far. The hospital told me 1/250 or over is nothing to even worry about if that helps.

Wow @Bluebell9 that’s amazing amazing change!
Thanks for letting me know.

Thanks @LBunz I know. I wish they gave it in % terms because it sounds so much better. I know that’s ridiculous. Really pleased to hear about your low result and healthy pregnancy.

I booked my harmony test for tomorrow.
Horrible amount of money for when I know, statistically, it’s such a low chance. But I know that number will be etched in my brain for the next 6 months if I didn’t do it.
Thank you all for your advice!

Good luck!
It’s worth the peace of mind 100%

LBunz · 11/05/2021 17:31

That was suppose to say NHS NOT super accurate.

I hesitated about the NIPT too as we're skint but glad I did as it gave me peace of mind.

Good luck for the results! And try not to worry in the meantime Flowers

LittleCatDog · 11/05/2021 20:42

Yes much much lower, it made me feel a lot better. It is expensive isn't it, that's what was putting me off but I am really glad I did it otherwise I would be worrying about it every day! I hope it goes well!

SubParbanMum · 27/05/2021 17:17

Quick update - I had to wait a while because the UK lab couldn’t process the harmony tests but got the results and low chance - 1 in 10,000.
We’re so happy and want to say thanks to everyone for their advice and reassurance!
