its v v powerful -
of all oils, i would triple check its ok for pregnancy.

IF its safe, i would dilute it A LOT in almond oil or similar and then put in bath and welcome the total bliss of losing control of your body followed by a great nights sleep

But do check is safe

i thought clary sage was an abortofacient (ie can bring on miscarriage)

i heard a few drops in a bath can bring on labour!

Lulumama · 15/11/2007 16:32

are you full term?

massage it diluted in carrier oil or burn , but use wisely and with caution

flamingtoaster · 15/11/2007 16:33

It is NOT safe during pregnancy - but is useful in inducing/helping labour apparently.

I put a few drops in the bath and some in the oil burner a few weeks before due date and I was bang on time - must have worked!

jorange5 · 15/11/2007 16:44

wonderful stuff to use if your contractions stop, it got mine re-started twice! I put it in a burner and rubbed some on my belly - VERY dilute in some massage oil.

mellymooks · 15/11/2007 16:56

I am an aromatherapist PLEASE don't use this unless you are in labour or overdue, then it can be very useful in kick starting your labour.
Before that it could potentially bring on premature labour so best to avoid.
Hope this helps xxxxx

As before it is useful for you if you are overdue and you can use in a carrier oil and rub around your ankle, above the heel IYSWIM.

Nbg · 15/11/2007 17:36

Well I'm 38 weeks with 3rd baby and having had 2 late babies, I really do not want another.

I find the smell v overpowering so not sure I could cope with it in the bath if its going to stay on my skin.
I like the rubbing on ankle idea!

I did have a good sniff of it last week and had a good hour of constant BH's about 2 hours after.

Oh yeah, carrier oils.

Whats the best one to use? Can you literally use any oil or does it have to be a specific one?

It's personal choice really and depends how dry/oily your skin is. The best all rounder is Sweet Almond oil. If you want something a bit richer try jojoba oil (which is great for stretch marks too!)

annobalthebignosereindeer · 15/11/2007 18:03

Apart from throw it away as it smells like wet dog...

I put a couple of drops on some cotton wool with some lavender for relaxing and smelt it every now and then.

Good luck!

Mistymoo · 15/11/2007 18:14

Nbg - the ankle is supposed to be the corresponding place to the womb in relexology that's why you rub there.

(just incase you were interested!)

Nbg · 15/11/2007 20:19

Sorry I keep disappearing. DIY duties call lol.

Right, I dont have any other oils (bloody typical). Could I use olive oil?

Having said that I'm not going to use it tonight as we're decorating the room I'm going to have the baby in and to top it off we have no lights atm, thanks to the fuse box

Knowing my luck, baby will decide tonights the night

I put some in the bath when 5 days overdue - went into labour about 36 hours later so not convinced it worked as such

sweetkitty · 15/11/2007 22:50

Throw it away it stinks and in my case was completely useless, DP said he was going to leave home if I didn't stop using it.

Every night I had a Clary sage ritual:

bath with double the dose of drops
dilute in almond oil rub in bump for at least half an hour
foot massage concentrating on specific refleology points for the uterus

I did this along with all the usual stuff from about 2 days overdue for about a week and gave up as I hated the smell, I had SPD and was in agony and desperate for the baby to come out, she did at 41+5!

Nbg · 16/11/2007 09:11

lol SW

I would chuck it but I paid £5 for it lol.

If it's unopened take it back.

Honestly it's smells horrid but I know that overdue going mad will try anything desperation.
