Fine with solids, but liquids make me nauseous

I've noticed that keeping hydrated is becoming a problem.

I'm 6 weeks pregnant and nauseous most of the time, but it seems to be worse with liquids. Yesterday morning I had some toast and fruit, felt fine. Didn't fancy a cup of tea and forgot to have any other drink. About an hour later I had a small glass of water and instantly felt sick. It has been the same today, to the point where I'm finding myself avoiding liquids.

I know I need to stay hydrated so I tried soup for lunch - which I was fine with. But since then I haven't been able to get though a cup of decaf tea, or a glass or water. It seems like as soon as they hit my stomach they're making me feel ill. I've tried hot, cold and room temperature, and all have the same effect. It also doesn't seem to matter if there's something in my stomach already or not.

Has anyone else felt this way and do you have any tips please?

I was like this aswell OP, although I did also struggle with solids!

One thing that I found was if I drank at a normal speed/gulped it all just came straight back up so I had to literally sip throughout the day, tiny little sips. It would take me an hour to finish a glass of water but it was what worked!

Also another thing to try keep hydrated is if you're able to keep the solids down try eating foods high in water such as cucumber so you're still getting some water in.

What about ice cubes? Would you be able to chew some ice cubes and eat them rather than water? I found that a good one too!

Fingers crossed it passes for you soon, the sickness is horrible!

Thanks @Lou98 I've just been to the freezer and found some fruit ice lollies - I'll have a nibble and see how I am. If it goes well I'll try making some of my own in different flavours as I find at the moment something I like one day repulses me the next day! Perhaps a few on rotation will work.

@TTCat39 yes I forgot about ice lollies! I actually found they helped my nausea aswell so an added bonus to keeping hydrated!

Have you tried bubbly water or soda water?

TTCat39 · 10/05/2021 18:19

@Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons I have, and it goes down well, but I'm having a bit of a problem with trapped wind at the moment too, so I've been trying avoid fizz incase it exacerbates it. Or do you think it might help shift the wind?

Absolutely the same here. From 6-10 weeks could manage most beige food without feeling ill but any liquid made me feel horrific. The only thing that worked for me was 50% fizzy drink and 50% water (it was gross). I think the fizz took the edge off or something?? I used to water down lemonade or orange fanta Blush DH thought it was disgusting. From about 13 weeks I could manage water again but still no hot drinks. 15 weeks now and still struggling with it really. Hope yours sorts itself out quicker!

Not sure it would help but I would think it wouldn't make trapped wind worse. And tbh painful as trapped wind can be (are you doing some yoga to help?) it won't hospitalise you like dehydrated could Flowers

they were the only things I could drink without nausea for all my pregnancies - soda water is so yummy while pregnant then about 2 days after birth it tastes disgustingly salty!
