One pram for all the jobs 😂

So am due my first in Sept and didnt realise choosing a pram would be so difficult, any pointers welcome/ will someone just tell me what to get 😂

I live in a town so the majority of the pram use will be walking to local park which has mixture of gravel/ grass/ small forest area which I will also be taking dog to. Will use car regularly too for shops.
Parents live over an hour away beside a beach with uneven grassy and gravel paths and so intend to visit them at least once a fortnight and stay over.

Basically trying to kill all birds with one stone and only buy one pram for both jobs and also one that will last a few years, yep am asking too much likely. 2nd child not currently a consideration.

Have been researching and visited shop this week and their only "all terrain" options were vista v2 and fox 2. Initially liked fox2 slightly more because of steer and weight. Fold/ ease of use on vista better/easier though.
Also considering a second hand buffalo as seen good reports re all terrain just a bit concerned by weight and also baby jogger city elite 2.

Probably overthinking the all terrain aspect too but any advise welcome

I adore my (2018) Vista. Three years and two DC in and it's still going strong, DD1 was using it daily in lockdown last summer at 2 until DD2 came along and usurped her.

It's ok if not brilliant on sand but no better or worse than my double out n about little nipper.

@SillyBry

If a lot of what you’re doing is off road, look at a three wheeler. Out n about, Thule, mountain buggy are all great Range Rover type options! Most do a fixed wheel, which has bigger wheels so takes up more space. But is designed for running and all things off road. The ones with a swivel wheel (out n about nipper, Thule urban glide, mountain buggy) are a great middle ground. Still got really decent size wheels and the option to fix the front wheel for off road or have the swivel for when out and about in time. They generally have bassinet attachments etc as well. We have an out n about sport (fixed wheel) for running and it’s such a workhorse. They are British made and tough as nails.
Yes. This exactly. If you need a truly rough terrain buggy (beach, gravel, woods, etc) you need an option for a fixed wheel, and ideally 3 wheels (big ones!). The running buggies are good options, though really not suitable for everyday shopping. We have the Out N About Sport which truly was life-saving in terms of going anywhere (my husband recently ran up a mountain with it), and I have NOTHING bad to say about our daily pram (Bugaboo). The Bugaboo is very very well made - it's a workhorse too, and can handle some rough ground, but not like our sport buggy. So it was a good trade for us to get 2, and keep one in the boot of the car at all times.

We went fox2. We loved loved the vista in the shop but it came down to it being awkward to lift into the car as I have some back problems and the fox2 was easier for me to manage on my own. Hated the icandy all terrain as it was so heavy. Fox2 also has a two wheel sand/snow mode for the beach. We tried a lot of different ones and were happy with our choice but is also a first baby due in September so not put into practise yet! x

I have a microlite and it's great off roading! Good on sand too! 4 wheels

cantbeforeal · 10/05/2021 09:10

I have the Bumbleride indie it's really good

MorgenMuffel · 10/05/2021 09:11

We have a nuna mixx. Very robust and copes well in our local country park with gravel and dirt paths, but easy to get on bus etc. I'd try and visit a couple of shops and try a variety out

BurningBenches · 10/05/2021 09:34

I love my baby jogger.

I've had 4 babies and my first two I went through multiple buggies with. Got a double BJCM with 2&3, then 8yrs later a BJCM GT single for number 4, with bassinet and you can get car seat adapters.

Now expecting DC5 with a 22m gap and have got another BJCM double, otherwise I wouldn't be changing.

Things I like:
Nice roomy seats.
Easy to push.
The only surface I've really struggled on was sand at the beach, I regularly walk in the park with my 3 dogs.
The folding! I think a lot of buggies have improved over the last 10yrs but my Silver cross in 2009 reduced me to tears, it was impossible!

enjoysun · 10/05/2021 09:45

I just don't get prams. Do t get me wrong, with three kids I got plenty of wear out of it, but honestly from about 7/8 months old the kids wanted to sit up, and the other attachments were cumbersome to operate. The Pram was heavy, I was fed up trying to manoeuvre it down the aisles of small shops etc...

So I bought a lightweight Maclarens buggy that fully reclined and got years and years worth of use out of it

MustStopSnacking28 · 10/05/2021 09:49

Agree with pps about a mountain buggy urban jungle. We live in a city but use it for park/roads (great on kerbs, don’t have to lift it up!)/can go on the beach with no issues. We don’t have the carrycot but considering buying it for baby number 2. It’s brilliant! We also have a silver cross which is lovely but nowhere near as practical, wish I had done more research before buying it as I think we would have just gone for the urban jungle to start with if we had known.

lilroo87 · 10/05/2021 09:52

We have bought a second hand buffalo, although haven't used it yet as our little one isn't due till the end of July.
I have practices putting it in and out of my car and it isn't the lightest but it's not that bad.
We have a gravel driveway and it glides over it with ease so I'm really pleased with our choice.

Bathwater · 10/05/2021 10:10

We bought a second hand buffalo (immaculate 2017 frame - look up stroller workshop on YouTube as he has tips on buying them second hand). It’s been perfect for our needs for our son born in December 2020. I worked on principal this was the best all rounder and because I got it for £280 meant I could decide later down the line based on how we used it what our lightweight stroller would be. For us it’s the yo-yo for lightweight travel because buffalo has gone everywhere we’ve needed to easily - beach, woodland walks etc. Chassis with the carrycot is a beast of a size but we have an estate so that’s not a concern. Even looking at friends unless it’s a baby jogger/ out and about or other stroller type they do take up a lot space regardless. Just nature of a travel system.
Bugaboo Buffalo carrycot also seems bigger than the others - so he’s still in it at 5 months with plenty room still (average size baby).
If I wasn’t bothered about parent facing with a small child I probably would gone for the out and about nipper 360. Good resale value on them aswell!

Sooty1983 · 10/05/2021 21:17

Thanks everyone. So much good advise. Am def hedging towards 2nd hand (buffalo I think) which gives me options and takes away the guilt of blowing my budget all on one pram. Ill keep you posted on what I get. Smile

You need Big wheels but silvercross are insanely too big imho

cafedesreves · 10/05/2021 21:57

Def get second hand then buy a lightweight GB pockit all city stroller once baby is 6 months. Best thing ever in the city IMO!

randomsabreuse · 10/05/2021 22:04

I barely used a pram because a sling worked better for me, mostly location as all the quick routes into town involved steps and most of our preferred country walks had tight kissing gates or stiles.

I did get a lot of use out of my running buggy (Out and About Nipper Sport) but it's annoying to steer in tight places, and long. Nice to push and competent on rough ground/deep mud though. We got rid of the basic stroller because it was miserable to push compared with the running buggy especially dealing with kerbs and anything other than perfect tarmac!

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 10/05/2021 22:32

If you have a dog get one you can steer with one hand (and a coffee cup holder 😉)
Not up to speed on current models. Used a stokke which was a fantastic town pram but a sod/huge to fit in a boot. Got a cheap lightweight MacLaren which we kept in the car boot for trips/holidays etc. Parents live overseas and they bought a similar model to be kept there for visiting grandkids which was super handy.
Used a sling when they were tiny but my back wasn't up to it and used a trekking style backpack carrier which was fantastic for uneven terrain, airports, etc. They sort of stand up by themselves too so you can put them down if needed.
Got a double MacLaren when I had two. Worst buy ever, like trying to move a broken shopping trolley. Two hands at all times.

Moral of the story, while we both loved the Stokke pram, it was in hindsight an expensive option given the myriad of other needs. We fell hook line and sinker for the "travel system" bollocks.

We opted for this travel system. It's also worth going directly to their website as they usually have better offers

Sooty1983 · 11/05/2021 06:34

Is this the micralite getgo?

2weekstogo · 11/05/2021 06:38

@Sooty1983 sorry probably would have been helpful to tell you what it is. This is the ickle bubba stomp V2

This is their website it's cheaper and you get a choice of more colours
