Has anyone had any issues getting the covid vaccine?

I’ve been invited to get my vaccine weeks ago (not sure why I’m 32 and not high risk)..I wanted to wait till I was 12 weeks though so currently trying to get it booked and I know the latest advice days to get moderna or Pfizer. I called 119 and they said call GP..GP said call 119 and then told them I already had and they said someone will call me back next week but they don’t sound overly sure what to do about it.

I saw an article in the guardian today about this with GPs struggling to provide a choice. Has anyone else got any tips for how to overcome this? Conscious that the countries opening back up soon and want to get it ASAP really due to the risks in pregnancy.

In the end I had it via the GP as the national booking system helpline staff couldn't work out which local sites were giving which vaccine.

Yes, was invited to book and did so, but was practically frogmarched out of Hammersmith vaccination centre as they just kept repeating that they didn’t vaccinate pregnant women there. Wouldn’t budge. Im now down as a no-show as I wasn’t able to rebook (although wasn’t sure where to even do that because apparently only certain places will do it) waiting on GP to suggest what I should do. I need to work up until my due date as a nanny so I am really frustrated and want to get it sorted.

I believe that females under 40 are not being given anything other than moderna or Pfizer now because of the blood clot issues so if your worry is which type you will be given I wouldn't worry.
If it's that you want to wait until later then there should be a number to call to reschedule your vaccine? Or cancel it?
I'm not sure how it works in England though if that's where you are. I am in my 20's and in Wales we've already had our vaccine appointments given by letter. Typical that they arranged mine at the same day and time as my 20 week scan! So I had to call to reschedule.

hey! felt like this was gonna be an issue with me, and wanted to be prepared for when offered it. saw GP about something to day and he was saying u need to speak to them when u ring to book....but people have been being directed to online booking...so not sure how that works!
anyway, a bit later saw the BBC news headline that under 40s wouldnt be offered AZ now anyway, so am hoping this wont be an issue trying to find a centre that gies pfizer and moderna to pregnant women! was no idea how was going to sort out booking a jab but trying to say that i needed it to not be AZ on the day! hoping given todays news we might be ok!

PepS123 · 07/05/2021 18:11

Lol yes but with me I’ve just been turned away at my second appt for the AZ jab - refused to give it to me despite the guidance online saying it’s the pregnant woman’s choice regarding the second jab if she’s between jabs and it’s the AZ one! I’m clinically extremely vulnerable and weighing up the risks I think it’s better for me to have it. Need to speak with GP again now; don’t know if there’s some way I can get it or start on the Pfizer/Moderna ones.

WobbleHead · 07/05/2021 20:39

Yes I am having a complete nightmare. I was offered it in Feb due to high BMI but turned it down due to pregnancy. Now, I keep being passed from pillar to post - nobody seems to know what to do. So frustrating. That Guardian article was spot on.

Yes! It’s a mess! It’s not just pregnant women it’s also anyone under 30 who has been told they are eligible (for health reasons etc). GPs only have access to their local centres and for some absurd reason 119 won’t book pregnant women (which is ridiculous since the new recommendations came into play). The argument is that no one should “choose” which vaccine they get, but you’re hardly choosing if it’s a medical recommendation! The doctors surgeries are stuck because 119 is referring people back to them and they are powerless to book patients elsewhere.
My doctors have actually been very good and actively trying to break this cycle, but I’ve only got my vaccine booked because a load of Pfizer doses have just been delivered to my local centre.

I just updated another thread about this, but looks like they are going to change the online booking system in coming days

I feel totally in limbo now as i had the astrazenica jab in feb before all the clotting issues came out ( Im a carer and 27) and my 2nd one is on Sunday but there is a possibility I could be pregnant. Im gonna test before i go and then speak to someone at the vaccination centre but i don't know what to do. Really wish id turned it down now when it was offered to me and waited until it was my age category rather than priority group 😔

BurningBenches · 07/05/2021 23:34

Yep. I spoke to my MW after the guidance changed (I'm 41, 35wks, obese, and DH is immune suppressed though he has been vaccinated) and she said call 119.

Called 119 and they told me (2wks after the guidance changed) that it wasn't recommended for pregnant women unless they had underlying health conditions. I said no, the guidance was updated 2wks ago, 119 said she couldn't check because her internet was down and referred me back to the gov.uk and rcog websites. I hate using the phone so gave up.

Emailed my GP, no reply but have had an invitation to be vaccinated by them so I'll go and see whether pfizer/moderna are on offer, not feeling hugely optimistic but we will see

pookypup · 08/05/2021 05:22

Same problems here, I’m 42 and 35 weeks pregnant, but no one can book me in.

Hopefully the system will be updated soon, I’m pleased to see that this is now being reported in the national press.

Aozora13 · 08/05/2021 08:53

Yes me! I hope they update the system soon, but in the meantime if your GP can’t provide the vaccine they need to make a referral for you to NHS England who will then contact you for an appointment.

I’m getting the Pfizer jab later today in a random clinic in another part of my borough, after extensive ringing round various different bits of the NHS last week! It’s really crap though, my GP had no clue what to do with me and initially said they couldn’t help at all!
