Hi all

I was wondering if anyone would mind sharing stories/information about recovery after a c-section.

I'm booked in for the 26th I'm not overly worried about the procedure I'm just super excited to have a date to meet our boy but as it wasn't my original plan I'm not really sure if there's any important info to be aware of for after?

Thank you 😊

Just hopping on as I think I may have to have a c-section. I'm 36 weeks and will find out at my midwife appointment today whether he is still breech. I'm certain he is though as I can still feel a hard lump above my belly!

How many weeks will you be when you have section? My sister and SIL have both had sections and loved them. Both recovered relatively quickly too Smile

Had one last time with breech twins.
I did lose a lot of blood so was kept on recovery longer than most. I declined painkillers after my spinal wore off, I would have over done it if I couldn't feel the pain. I got up and walked about 12 hours after surgery but felt like a lead weight so stayed in bed until morning. In the morning I felt fine, once catheter was out I walked down the ward for lunch and a shower. Got discharged that evening, had no trouble carrying both twins around together and was back doing household stuff straight away. I was out pushing yet double pram within a few days. My wound got infected as my stitches didn't dissolve but removal and antibiotics sorted it. I was comfortable picking up our 2 & 4 year olds after a few weeks and driving after 6 after dh went back to work. I only notice my scar at the start of af and after heavy deadlifts nowadays. Hoping to go vbac this time but will go elcs if she's breech or overdue (don't want induction).

My cousin dabbed liquid antiseptic on her wound to help keep it clean, I think I'd try that if I had another. Cheap black full briefs 2 sizes bigger were the only thing I got that I hadn't with my vb's.

@MummyLE that's exactly what he feels like with his head so high up if I lean/sit to far forward it digs right in. I will be 39+2 when I'm booked in the said they do them after 39 weeks but if you go in to labour sooner they will bring it forward.

I had 2 different midwives who couldn't decide which way round he was that's why I had a scan. Before the scan a dr and a nurse said he feels head down I'm sure it's fine but no once they checked his feet are definitely wedged low down. I thought that was the case as he movements/kicks have only ever felt really low

Congratulations to you

@Chelyanne thank you for sharing

I had one for my third DC who was breach. It was fine. Recovery is slower than a straightforward vaginal delivery. I stayed 2 nights in hospital by choice as I paid to have a private bed - meant I did very little for 2 days which I think was an excellent plan. I also refused the codeine once my epidural wore off because I don't like the feeling of being zonked. I had the section in the morning and was helped to get up and wash that evening. As with a pp I was able to get up and walk around once the catheter was out. I would suggest you take it very very easy for the first 6 weeks. It's a big operation and whilst moving around is good, the slower you take it the better the long term recovery. Absolutely go for a gentle walk but avoid any lifting other than baby for as long as poss. I'm usually a go go go person but I listened this time and I am glad I did. After 6 weeks I was very ready.

sounds like the exact same situation I was in. I was called into hospital for 11.30 but it was a long wait before it was my turn. By the time baby was born at 4.30pm it had been a long day without food/water. Take entertainment with you!

surgery was fine, worst part for me was the spinal. I couldn't seem to get into a position the anaesthetist was happy with and that made me a bit panicky. once that was done everything happened pretty quickly. They check you are numb with the freezing spray, put the catheter in and then they start.

recovery wise I made the mistake of drinking too much water too quickly quite soon afterwards which made me violently sick - not great with a fresh abdominal wound so they gave me anti sickness meds which made me feel like I was drunk. I was finally moved to postnatal ward at 11pm and husband was made to go home.

Catheter was removed at 6am next morning and I was told to get up and walk around which was difficult but doable. pain was pretty bad for 7 days afterwards and trapped wind in first 48 hrs horrific. I stayed in for 2 nights to get stronger painkillers.

I did short walks around the block on day 4 and was in the pub on day 7! I was driving by 5 weeks.

top tip - don't let your bladder get full during recovery. that made the pain a lot worse for me. pack arnica tablets - they really help with the bruising. And take a pillow to put between you and the seatbelt for the drive home!

I had one with my breech baby. Only found out he was breech at 38 weeks after hoping cut Midwife led unit!
However it was a great experience, very calm, smooth, really well looked after.
Just make sure you take it easy afterwards and take painkillers for the first week or so (have a schedule, take them before you're in any pain!), I had a super smooth and easy recovery and minimal discomfort.
Was so happy with it all i opted for an elective section for my second baby!
I hope it goes smoothly for you.
