Anyone under the mental health team?

I was referred during my booking appointment.
I'm 12 weeks now and would have expected to hear from them by now.
If you're under a prenatal mental health team, when did you first hear from them and what/ how often are your appointments?

I'm currently under the care of a psychiatrist but as my mood is quite stable at the moment she's happy to manage me. Will be referred to perinatal at around 8 months because of potential baby withdrawal etc from the medications I'm on.

I think it was a month or 2 the last time I was referred to them. Follow it up with your midwife and she might be able to chase xx

Thanks, I think I'll have to chase.

I was referred to see the Mental health midwife and a consultant after my booking appointment at 8 weeks, I saw them first the day before my 12 week scan. I've been seeing the consultant and mh midwife together monthly and they are amazing. I'm only consultant led for mh reasons so my birth options aren't affected by it and all my care so far has been really good. Just ask and I'm sure they'll look into it for you :)

They don’t tend to do their assessment until your past the 12 week mark. I was 14 weeks when I had my assessment with my local team but they did say it can take up to a month normally for an assessment.

Then post assessment they make a decision if you meet their criteria.

If you ask your midwife there the best people to chase them up for you.

That sounds really positive @Edelweiss2020
@Absc ah, I'm only just 12+4.

I was referred at booking and haven't heard yet and I'm 22 weeks. My midwife chased at 16 as she was worried about me but still nothing Hmm

I work in perinatal mental health. Like every NHS mental health service we are massively stretched and don't tend to see referrals until they are past the first trimester, unless there is a specific reason such as serious risk concerns. You will then be offered an assessment and could be offered a variety of interventions depending on your individual need and what is available in your local team- psychiatric assessment, nursing, psychology, nursery nurse etc

Flamingo49 · 06/05/2021 20:51

I meant to add- depending on whether you meet their threshold for acceptance into the service!

I have a significant history of MH issues. I was referred at my booking app and didn't see the MH midwife until I was 36 weeks. I pushed for it during my whole pregnancy and in the end went to PALS, who sorted it for me. Postnatally I am now under the perinatal MH community service who were shocked when I told them (and they never received a referral to their service either)

Aisforharlot · 06/05/2021 21:18

@rooarsome and @tigerbread20 that is shocking.
@Flamingo49 thanks, good to know. I'm fine now (though with significant history of ocd/anxiety), my main issue is I will need accommodations directly post natal with their help due to trauma with ds1.
