Hi does anyone have any help/info to ease hayfever symptoms when pregnant? I'm 19 weeks pregnant and sneezing and runny nose the past few days. I do usually suffer with hayfever I just don't know what is safe to take/use when pregnant.

Topical treatments such as nose sprays and eye drops are safe and preferable to tablets if possible. If you are still struggling speak with your GP and see what they recommend tablet wise.

You can’t take over the counter anti histamines. I was prescribed a nose spray called ‘avamays’ or something like that which was great and some eye drops as well. The pharmacist said no to everything so had to see the GP x

My midwife advised me to buy some local honey and have a spoonful a day to relieve hayfever symptoms. I'd never heard of it before but some people say it worked for them.

I was prescribed a nose spray and eye drops by the GP - it was a godsend

This provided some relief when I developed hayfever post birth and was breastfeeding so not wanting to take medication: lloydspharmacy.com/products/lloydspharmacy-allergy-reliever

You don't need to go to your GP for a nose spray and eye drops - over the counter brands are fine 👍

I've been okay this year but my friend got prescribed a nose spray with her pregnancy last summer, worth talking to your GP or pharmacist about which ones you can take

Crazybirdlady · 06/05/2021 21:29

I've taken cetrine when the nose spray didn't cut it. Checked with GP and consultant and they said it's fine, the usual about they can't be certain as no trials done, but it's not known to cause any harm.

Putting vaseline around my nose really helps me, the pharmacist gave me this tip after telling me he wouldn't recommend any over the counter treatments while pregnant

This NHS link says loratadine is safe during pregnancy. I have been taking it when symptoms are really bad.

I took cetirizine when my symptoms got really bad. It was approved by my Obstetrician.

I had to go to GP for a prescription for antihistamines which were a godsend a couple of weeks ago. Pharmacist wouldn’t sell me anything over the counter.

KatyGee · 07/05/2021 21:40

I suffer severe hayfever so was really concerned about this - I spoke to the midwife and she said piriton is absolutely fine to take!

Loratidine and cetirizine are considered ok in pregnancy. You can buy them from supermarkets
1starwars2 · 24/06/2021 11:04

I took Cetirizine throughout 2 pregnancies. Without it I don't think I could cope.
The roof of my mouth itches, my eyes swell and I sneeze constantly.
