How to kill mould off dishes

Hello, I’ve come to ask if anyone has tips and tricks on how to kill mould off dishes?
I’ve been looking online now too but everything includes bleach and I was to try and stay away from putting bleach on things I eat off as I’m pregnant.
We have a dish washer and we fill it up as we go along, so sometimes some dishes are in there for a while until it’s full enough to put through a cycle. Went to put it on last night but noticed two of my pots had little white fuzzy things growing in them (disgusting I know) I freaked out a little bit and I washed one of the pans first with a sponge and some anti bac fairy washing liquid in the sink (over the other dirty dishes, stupid I know I wasn’t thinking obviously) then I went to wash the other pan but decided that I made a mistake and just put them back in the dish washer and run a really long hot cycle, I didn’t check if the other dishes in the dish washer has these fuzzy white spots on them and I should have because they most likely did expect for the newer dirty ones I put in, stupid me then again I don’t know what was wrong with my yesterday I clearly just wasn’t thinking as I was doing things and started to wash another pan that didn’t have the white fuzzies on it with that sponge! So I chucked the sponge straight away after that and just put everything in the dish washer on that hot cycle.
Has that hot cycle killed the mould as I’ve looked this morning and everything seems sparkly clean or maybe has the mould now spread and in a couple of days time there will be mould on all my dishes because I washed the mouldy ones over the dishes in the sink and the mouldy ones have also been washed in the dish wash and I washed that one pan too with the sponge I used for the mouldy one! Or should I just Chuck everything and start again?
Sorry for the really lengthy post, I don’t usually worry about stuff at all and really chilled but have worried about the mould situation now and being pregnant too!
Ant tips and tricks or just start over and buy new ones?

I think you’re over thinking this.
First of all, I put my dishwasher in once a day whether it’s full or not, I also clean the filter weekly. I use micro fibre dish cloths and change them every day, throwing the dirty in in the washing machine.
Regarding washing up, hot water and regular washing up liquid will remove any harmful bacteria. Mould grows on food particles. Once those particles have been removed off dishes mould cannot grow on them.

Yep. All of this.

Just run the dishwasher everyday. Costs pennies.

I would have thought the hot water and dishwasher soap would have killed anything, even just the hand washing. White vinegar will break down most mould spores though so you could use this in the cycle to be extra sure, I’d run your machine through a cleaning cycle too.
It’s easy to get the anxiety when pregnant but honestly this isn’t anything to freak out over, if it’s a non-porous surface like dishes the mould can’t permeate the way it can in a wooden chopping board for example so it can’t linger.

Dishwasher will be fine but if you are really concerned soak them in Milton!

PlanDeRaccordement · 06/05/2021 10:23

First off, mould can’t grow into dishes because they are ceramic. It can only grow on surface where there are food particles. So you’ve done everything right. Your dishes and pans are clean. The only thing I would do now is clean the dishwasher filter with bleach and soap.

I agree with prior poster...don’t let the dishes sit in dishwasher for more than a day. Run it even if it isn’t full.

Thanks guys, I don’t know why this has made me over think so much I’m usually really unbothered by things, think mould is my trigger maybe haha
Okay that’s really good to know, I try and let us get full as only two of us live here and there’s only like a plate or something at a time so I try and let it build up before putting on but I’ll put it on whenever there’s a dish there!
Yeah I clean the filter often and have done this morning now after the cycle with the mouldy pots in!
Just thought putting it on for a couple of dishes was a waste but I’ll start doing it every other day now instead of like the once a week situation I have been as that’s obviously not worked out for me, thanks both definitely put my mind at ease, I’ll give them all a once over again now and stop worrying :)

If this anxiety is new for you, and you say you're not normally like this, I really think it's worth speaking to either your GP or your midwife about prenatal anxiety x

TheVolturi · 06/05/2021 10:27

You can blame your pregnancy hormones for making you crazy about this op! It's fine, and definitely put the dishwasher on every day, a quick cycle will be fine 👍🏻

wishfulthinkingxo · 06/05/2021 10:28

Thank you everyone I’m definitely feeling way less worried! I thought maybe I might have spread it and it’ll start to grow again I didn’t know it was killed off with warm water and dish soap once been removed and won’t affect the other dishes! Really good to know and for peace of mind too, I was ready to chuck it all out and start again haha, yeah I’ll run the dish washer on a cleaning cycle now too and give the dishes a good once Over again in the sink and job done, thank you all.
Now to go back to being chilled again haha.

Yeah this worried feeling is new to me, I haven’t really been worried at all until last night then I just thought oh god I’m going to be eating mould off these plates because I was stupid and washed them in with other dishes and washed the mouldy one over other dishes in the sink! Clearly wasn’t thinking and had a bit of a panic but feeling much much better now and to be fair this is the first thing I’ve actually panicked over so I don’t think I’ll be calling the midwife just yet haha.
Yeah I’ll definitely be blaming this little blip on my pregnancy hormones for sure! Haha thanks guys you’ve all been a massive help!
