@terrileeanneq yup, I was diagnosed at the weekend after getting sent straight to hospital from a standard midwife appointment. They’ve put me on beta blockers and twice weekly monitoring

Hi,

Same situation, 34 weeks and BP went through the roof (pre pregnancy 120/65 now 150/95!) Had an overnight hospital stay and now on beta blockers 3x a day (labetalol). Frustrating as i didn't feel ill and had been happily walking 2-4 miles a day and swimming 3 times a week. Are you guys still working? I'm not due to go on mat leave for another 4 weeks yet and thinking about asking for reduced hours as the beta blockers don't make me feel great.

terrileeanneq · 08/06/2021 22:21

I'm not working at present with covid. But I get what you mean the labelatol makes me feel terrible. Have been struggling for 4 weeks now and if anything the swings in my blood pressure have made me more tired. I'm constantly at the emergency obsectic unit with mine as it shoots ip the drops super low then up again having to rest more to keep it on an even key which isn't possible with a 5 year old running about 🙈

@terrileeanneq - that sounds very stressful :( how many weeks are you now? Are you planning a nautural labour? The meds seem to keep my BP fairly static thankfully but a few hours after taking them i get jittery, tired, nauseas and a bit of a headache. Have only been taking them 5 days and was hoping I might get more tolerrant to them but perhaps not! Confused I'm 34 weeks so just planning to hang in there till the final hurdle!

Sansa87 · 09/06/2021 12:25

I ended up getting admitted a week later, & then induced at 41+1. Ended up in an emergency c-csection at 41+3

I’m still on the labetalol, but now have a beautiful 3 week old baby girl.

Muminwaiting1 · 09/06/2021 13:39

Congrats @sAnsa87 ! Hope you all are doing well? Did you get induced because the BP was still too high on the Labetalol or because of other reasons? I'm really hoping i won't need to be induced but it could be out of my hands :(

babyboybluex · 09/06/2021 14:38

Hey @terrileeanneq,

Firstly, hope you're doing ok and trying to stay as calm as possible!

I had this at 37 weeks with my first son. Sent to the hospital twice at maternity appointments due to my BP being so high. After an hour of being monitored, my BP would come right down and I'd be fine. I think it was a mix of white-coat syndrome and a low hypertension.

Went into labour at 40+2 and couldn't have a water birth due to a spike in BP when being accessed. I had to stay in overnight to make sure my BP was suitable for being at home. Had a few extra Health Visitor visits postpartum to ensure all was ok.

All in all, I felt absolutely fine which was annoying!

Sansa87 · 09/06/2021 14:45

@Muminwaiting1 my bp spiked despite being on tablets twice a day. They added a third dose, & it helped, but I was already a week overdue, & they convinced me to start with the balloon catheter.

I absolutely didn’t want to be induced and fought it for a couple of weeks, but it wasn’t anywhere near as bad as I thought.

By the time they’d broken my waters she’d pooped inside me, & they discovered my placenta was off colour and had a bad smell to it when they cut me open so it turned out it was very lucky I got induced when I did.

Muminwaiting1 · 09/06/2021 16:20

Thanks so much @Sansa87 for sharing your experience. I'm still 6 weeks from being due so just hoping BP behaves between now and then. I'm on Labetalol 3 times a day at the momemt so probably nowhere to go if they want to increase it.

I'm sure you are glad then that things turned out as they did with the induction and C section if there were hidden placenta issues. Thank goodness you are both safe and well x

andadietcoke · 09/06/2021 16:22

I had this and they gave me something else on top of the labetalol at the end - I can't remember what though. I ended up self discharging after 6 days because it didn't come down even after the DTs were born and the meds cart was always late so my BP was really poorly controlled. 7.5 years later it's still high and I'm on meds

terrileeanneq · 09/06/2021 22:06

@Muminwaiting1 I'm 37+6 now being csection Ed next thursday (17/6/21) as baby is breech amongst also being above the 95th percentile ( I make huge babies) yeah the first few days I was the same but I do think it takes some getting used to with them

Hey,

Yeah doing a lot better atm just at that point towards the end where I'm exhausted all the time and can't wait for baby to be here now

It's so annoying when your blood pressure does that. On multiple occasions mine has done this where i feel terrible for hours even with resting etc and I ring my eou and end up going up for it to be high then even off. I swear I feel terrible sometimes as I wouldn't go unless I felt I needed to.

Oh I'm sorry you didn't get your water birth. I've been booked for csection as baby is measuring big and breech but I make big babies anyways (first baby born at 39 weeks was 11lbs11ozs ; no hypertension).

I wouldn't mind if I had to be on the labetatol after baby is born as I've never had problems out side of this pregnancy with my blood pressure. As long as baby is safe that's my main concern at the moment
