I have for all 4 dc, would get a cold water one over a electric one any day, so easy to use.

Gennia · 05/05/2021 09:45

Same. We got the Milton cold water steriliser and it was incredibly easy to use. Lasts 24 hours once you make up the solution, so you can just pop stuff in it as and when you need.

Think things take 20 minutes to be considered sterile after putting them in. Normally though bottles and such had been in for longer, so things were always ready when we needed.

Baby is due in 4 weeks, I did lots of research and spoke to lots of mum friends and we have gone with the Milton cold water one.

Getyourarseofffthequattro · 05/05/2021 12:25

yes and i loved it, most convenient thing ever. Empty / Fill every day, wash everything, shove everything in until you need it, jobs a gooden. Soooo much easier than faffing with steam or microwaves.

Mumdiva99 · 05/05/2021 12:29

The electric sterilisers seem to be priced at £10 on our local FB market place. A pack of milton tablets will cost a few pounds. I'm not sure you will save money by using cold water option.

(I used the tablets and a Tupperware pot because I breast fed and only used them occasionally. They worked fine and were no trouble.)

DungeonKeeper · 05/05/2021 13:47

I had both and the Milton tank was by far the easier out of the two.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/05/2021 13:52

We still use them on children's wards.

@LayingLow Hey I did with my last baby, it was the best thing I ever did. It was the Milton cold water steriliser and I intend to use it again this time. Previously I had used the microwaveable Tommee Tippee one with my first baby and it was hassle x

LayingLow · 05/05/2021 16:19

Oh ok great I think I will get one this time then x

I have with both of my two and will with the new baby. I found it really easy. I live in such a hard water area that I was worried about electric sterilisers breaking and I didn't get a microwave until about a year ago so don't don't have that option either

I wish I'd got a cold water one over a microwave one- so much easier!

Lou98 · 05/05/2021 22:14

Sorry can I jump on this thread and ask - do people prefer the Milton tablets or the liquid?

I found the liquid got crystals on it and it marked the windowsill where the bottle sat...so we went back to tablets. Not always real Milton although I've never worked out the cost difference between supermarket/boots/Milton tablets, I suspect it's the same.

Definitely used the cold water far more, did do the mam self sterilising bottles in the microwave occasionally but normally just washed by hand and plopped into the cold Milton.

I preferred tablets because you could just chuck them in without measuring like liquid.
Lou98 · 05/05/2021 22:32

@8dpwoah @Getyourarseofffthequattro thank you! Will give the tablets a go 😁

3cats4poniesandababy · 05/05/2021 22:41

Tablets also work out much cheaper than liquid.

andivfmakes3 · 06/05/2021 05:41

Having had lots of power cuts recently (and twins) - didn't realise power cuts also mean no gas job to at least boil water to sterilise I've got some Milton tablets as a back up
