My cat is literally the light of my life, she's an indoor cat so has spent her whole life (4 years) it really just being me and her. Now baby is coming I'm firstly worried about how she may react, she's never really been used to not being number one 🤦🏻‍♀️ also, I know a lot has been said about keeping cats away from cots as they like the warmth and get in etc - for anyone that will say to just shut her out the room, this isn't an option as she will literally scratch, cry, scream at the door until she is let back in again (my fault for allowing her in since a kitten) she has given me plenty of sleepless nights because of this - sometimes it feels like I already have a child.

Has anyone got any advice as to what they have done with their spoilt pets ?!
Or what I can do to cover the cot ? I'm thinking of getting a co-sleeper due to space, I have seen mosquito type nets can be used but they don't seem to have good reviews - help!

My cat is a total dick !
He gets in the baby's cot at every chance when she's not in it which annoys and worries me.
I've made him a lovely space downstairs with great toys etc but he cries at the bedroom window 🙄 at about 4 am - just before the baby wakes at 5.
So now I have to keep him locked in at night downstairs and he's grumpy in the morning but he's getting over it !

One of our cats was terrified of DS and wouldn't go near him, the other loved to share my lap with him. The cot wasn't really an issue for us as DS was such a terrible sleeper he was never in it! We moved house when he was 7 weeks old and the new house had doors we could shut to keep the cats downstairs from then on.

I have a very spoilt indoor cat, he was 4 too when baby arrived and I was very worried, bought one of those cat nets and everything which was pointless! He would make a sharp exit when baby cried and never tried to snuggle in the cot and never bothered him at all. The only time he'd come in for a cuddle was when baby was asleep on me on the sofa and that was lovely, although absolutely boiling! My cat provides my baby with so much entertainment it's really lovely! He's never seemed bothered by the baby at all, I shouldn't have worried at all Smile

A further update on the cocoon crib - definitely not suitable for protection from cats!!

Just to add - there isn't a baby in there! He's not here yet but we've been leaving it out for a while to see what the cats do. She sat on it twice then ignored it for ages, but I've gone away for a couple of weeks and my husband sent me that photo! So even through she's ignored it for a while she's still interested 🙄

So glad I came across this thread as the whole cats and baby thing has been stressing me. Older relatives have been banging on that I cannot allow the cats to be in the same room as baby and absolutely must not allow them to get into the crib with him... because that was my first thought, to let my cats snuggle with my newborn Hmm

I’m due in two weeks and have been shutting the cats out of the bedroom for months now, they don’t seem too bothered anymore but occasionally I’ll let them come in and nap with me... one loves the next to me crib, but the other two aren’t interested. They’re all the sort of cats who absolutely shit themselves when there’s a knock at the door and any visitors mean they’re hiding under beds until they leave (we got two during lockdown so they aren’t used to other people) so I’m not too worried about them being overly friendly with a screaming baby Grin

Update from me re the inovi cocoon crib - we replaced ours after 2 days! The base board (which folds in half for travel) sunk in the middle by a fair bit, meaning baby was always slightly head down - not ideal!
We've just gone for a standard next to me crib now and are shutting the cats out. They're not very happy but they're adjusting x
