3rd time labour experiences when previous fast ones

I'm in the very early stages of my 3rd pregnancy- only 7 weeks. But I was wondering about others experiences with their 3rd labour.

my first labour was at 37 + 4 where I felt non-painful contractions in the evening and then the pain started at 37 + 5 at midnight, went to the hospital with very manageable pain at 5 am was 6cm on arrival and the boy was born at 9.20 am. 20 min pushing.

my 2nd in the night of 37 + 4 I awoke with the strongest non-painful contraction which I thought was a crazy Braxton hick contraction as it felt like a bowling ball in my uterus, but then I went back to sleep and that was that. The next morning still 37 + 4 I was running around getting my toddler to the nursery for my routine 37-week check-up at the hospital (not in the UK- it's normal to happen here) I had no contractions at all. I was examined prior to a swab being taken to check for infections (again routine here) and the student dr looked perplexed and asked her attending to help and he examined me and announced I was 6cm dilated. This was at midday. Stunned he admitted me and I had to head to delivery. I had the baby 4 hours later, 5 mins pushing 3 times.

So... has anyone else had this kinda thing... and what happened with the 3rd one. I have no idea what I would have done if I hadn't had a routine appointment that day, I was going to go to my job that evening lol as a teacher (teaching English as a foreign lang) to teenagers.

Luckily the hospital is only a 10 min drive away, but will I be aware of the labour in time? Btw I had epidurals both times with my boys which probably slowed the labour down a bit as I was too anxious about what the pain would be like. So the fear of no epidural, if I am not in time, scares me.

Let me hear some stories, I love a labour story.

F as also 7 weeks with number 3 and had a crazy fast delivery with DS2 where my husband had to deliver him at home. No time for midwife/ambulance to get there. Never mind to get to hospital. Would you consider a home birth @MushroomQueen

I don't think either of your births sound particularly fast really
My first was similar to yours, past 6 cm when I arrived at hospital, which was at 1030 am & I delivered at just after 2
My second I was probably in labour all day really, wasn't that far gone when I went to hospital at 730 but my waters broke & then baby arrived quickly an hour later.

I didn't see either of them as particularly fast.

But I did think that my 3rd would follow a similar path - first 2 were early by 3 weeks & 2 weeks. 3rd baby was overdue (only by a few days but felt much longer as I'd assumed he'd be early). The labour was slow to get going, so they ARM, whereupon everything happened very quickly & painfully, he was big so the pushing stage was hard.

In short, I'm not sure how good a predictor previous births are. My 3rd was nothing like the first two, tho overall they were all reasonably fast but not in a worrying way.

@EarringsandLipstick They were not majorly fast my first was pretty text book, but my 2nd i didn't know I was in labour and got to 6cm without being aware with no pain, so I am just wondering if that's likely to happen again.

But thanks, interesting your 3rd was overdue, I don't really want a Christmas day baby, but you get what your given really :)

Both of mine were fast in my opinion

1st waters broke at 8pm, pains started around midnight. I arrived at the hospital around 2.30am. Waiting to be examined when I had the sudden urge to push and he was born at 3.55am.

2nd waters broke around 12.45pm, had mild period pains from 9am which in hindsight were obviously contractions. Arrived at hospital and had to be transferred to main hospital due to meconium in my waters. Arrived at 2.25pm via ambulance and he was born 2.45pm.

I haven't had a third but if I did I'd definitely have a home birth! Our main hospital is 40 mins away on a good day and I've ended up there both times now so wouldn't risk getting there on time again.

Thankfully they agreed to the ambulance the second time as my husband followed in the car and arrived with about 5 mins to spare!

Good luck!!

@Violet1988 here in Portugal it is not really done. there are alternatives but usually all mothers and babies stay in hospital for 2 days after birth
