Can gestational diabetes be missed?

If you aren't sent for a test because of high bmi how would a midwife know if you could have GD? Can it be missed or would there be signs in your urine sample or blood work?

I've been more thirsty and tired than usual the past few weeks and am concerned these could be signs however I know they are also normal pregnancy symptoms (I'm 32 weeks)

Yes it can be missed, very easily in fact. My trust have started offering the test to everyone again luckily. It's a misconception only overweight women get GD. Yes it can increase your risk but there are plenty of women with normal BMIs who get it too.

I have no risk factors but had it. It was only picked up because I happened to book a private scan who commented that my baby's tummy was big and suggested I ask for a test.

I'm pregnant again and have been monitoring my sugar levels throughout. I've never had sugar in my urine and gd started again at 29 weeks.

I'm not saying you have it by any means but I'd definitely speak to your midwife about it.

@Teakind thank you I will mention to my midwife at my next appointment, better to be safe than sorry!
