Evening all
I am currently 9 +2 with my third and have been really struggling. Constant nausea, retching, puking, zero energy and terrible headaches. Started around 5 weeks and it’s really getting to me now as feel so guilty I am unable to look after my two children.
Please tell me positive tales of it turning a corner soon???

@jdr1234 I just wanted to post and say sorry that you're feeling so rubbish Flowers

I don't have a positive story as such, I had hyperemesis until 26 weeks and it was awful but the one thing that I would say is to go to the doctor and if what they prescribe doesn't work then go back and try again. I gave myself a hard time about taking tablets, then about taking up the doctors time when the initial tablets didn't work and ended up quite ill. I kept telling myself it was morning sickness and it should get better and when it didn't I ended up quite ill. My LO is my first so thankfully I was able to rest but if I was lucky enough to have another, getting help early on would be a must this time.

There's a hyperemesis thread on here somewhere, not that I'm saying that's what you have but it could still give you a wee bit of support and some suggestions of what might make you feel even the smallest bit better.

Hope you feel much better soon and congratulations on your pregnancy! Flowers

Ps original fizzy lucozade was a god send for me

@jdr1234 I'm in a similar boat. Pregnant with my second and have really suffered, vomiting constantly, nausea, major food/smell aversions, headaches. Feel the guilt around not being able to look after my dd too. I'm 10+1 today and although the nausea is still here the vomiting has eased a lot over last 5 days or so. Really hope it does for you soon too. I got anti-sickness tablets from doctor which I took when I was really bad to give myself a break.

I'm so sorry you're suffering @jdr1234 - I feel your pain as I was the same in the first few weeks. I got to the point where I would cry most days because I was so sick of feeling that way. I hit 16 weeks last Sunday and on Tuesday I started taking Omeprazole for my excruciating heartburn and all of a sudden I genuinely feel like a new woman. So after 11 ish weeks of feeling the way you did, I'm now able to actually finish a meal, look forward to eating and generally resume normal life. Hope that helps you feel a bit more positive!

Statistically 9 weeks is when you feel the worst and are most likely to be sickso , so hopefully this will be the low point and it will start to get better

Littletoaster2021 · 30/04/2021 15:13

Just want to echo what others have said - I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this, and please go to the doctor for medication! There are meds that are commonly prescribed and are totally safe. The one they’ll probably start you on is cyclizine which is most effective if you take it regularly. Can make you drowsy the first 2-3 days but that goes away for most people (it did for me). And there are others you can try if that doesn’t work!

One stopped around 12 weeks.
Sipping (and I mean sipping - not drinking) cold Diet Coke helped ease mine.

Thanks all
Ended up in EPU today as felt so rubbish but because I’m only actually puking once a day the dr said the anti sickness won’t help much as won’t really stop the nausea. Just suggested lots of fluids and rest (easier said than done with a 3 and 6 year old) 🤦‍♀️ I know I have it easy compared to others and now really really sympathize with those suffering.

You poor thing!! I started to feel a bit better around 11 weeks and then the nausea finally went at 13 weeks. I feel you needing energy for the rest of the family - it's relentless. I lived on ready salted crisps in the early days!

Littletoaster2021 · 30/04/2021 15:35

That’s horrible! If you have the strength, it might be worth going back to the gp and asking to try a short cyclizine prescription anyway. It massively reduced my nausea as well as my vomiting. Not everyone finds that it helps nausea, but it transformed my quality of life and it’s a cheap drug so they aren’t usually opposed to prescribing. HG forced me to become more knowledgeable than I ever wanted to on this! Please don’t feel bad for wanting some relief, you deserve it xx

shivawn · 30/04/2021 15:39

For me it was only really bad from 6-8 weeks then I started feeling a lot better. Since 13 weeks to where I am now at 18 weeks I don't feel pregnant at all, completely back to normal!

hporter10 · 30/04/2021 15:56

I feel like I will be in this position soon. I am 5+6 and a few days ago I started to feel really sick and the nausea hit. I have only thrown up once (mostly bile) in the last couple of days. But I am worried about work. I am a teacher so struggle with time off (can't really take holiday during term time). I have 4 weeks left until half term and don't know whether to request a sick note from the doctor due to it or wait until it gets worse - I've heard around 9 weeks is really awful

BountyIsUnderrated · 30/04/2021 15:59

I would like to say it improved around 12 weeks for me but it actually got worse. Grin
Sorry probably not what you want to hear, it's different for everyone.
The good news is the worst of my nausea was probably over after 18 weeks and I wasn't nauseous at all during the third trimester.
