How do you sign up with new midwife when you move?

I've just moved 30 miles away, I told my midwife a month ago I'm moving & asked what to do, she said to sign up with a gp there and they'll sort it out
I'm 31 weeks now, last saw midwife 3 weeks ago. I signed up with gp surgery today and they didn't know what I'm supposed to do?!
I'm staying at the hospital I'm registered with as my c section already booked and I have lots of scans/a complication so seems much simpler to do that than move and it's not that far away
What do I do?! Sad

I was in a similar situation myself. I just registered at my new gp and then had to be very persistent with ringing everyday. The hard part was getting past the receptionist I think! They cannot refuse care and the community midwives will be happy to see you even if you’re still being processed on the system. If you can’t get past the receptionist call the local hospital labour ward and you will be able to speak to midwives rather than receptionists :)

When you ring the GP just say 'i need to book an appointment at the next midwife clinic please' and don't bother with any other details

I self referred to a hospital that was out of area (didn't realise). when I asked the GP receptionist how to book in with the midwives they didn't know what to do. I rang back a week later and just asked for a midwife appointment without giving them anymore details and got an appointment straight away.

The GP should be able to give you the number for the community midwife team or book you an appointment. I had a similar thing when I moved and went round it circles a bit before someone finally let me make an appointment. You'd think it'd happen fairly regularly so it's very odd that it seems to be such a struggle for them.

The GP's surgery should be able to book you in with the local midwife team or at least give you their contact details to do this yourself.

I moved at 36wk with my 1st pregnancy and just had 1 app with the local midwife team before birth and stayed with the same hospital.

Contact the hospital you want to book and give birth at. They will be able to tell you how to refer.

If you are giving birth at the hospital you are currently booked at you will need to attend care with them as you are now
