Another short cervix club?!

Hi! I'm currently 13 weeks and have had 2 LLETZ procedures in the past, so pretty sure my cervix will be short! I've read through a couple of old threads called short cervix club which seem like they were a really great support network throughout the ladies pregnancies, so wondered if anyone in similar situations wanted to start a new one?!

My story is that I've had 18mm removed, but consultant won't scan me until 16 weeks as I haven't had any previous losses, so wondering whether to trust him or go private sooner! Would be great to hear from anyone going through similar x

I'm glad everything was well at your visit, you'll be fine at your 16 weeks appointment, don't be nervous just ask questions and things be. That's what I've been doing

Norasmum · 22/05/2021 08:08

@Mysleepingangel how are you feeling?

Mysleepingangel · 22/05/2021 09:42

@Norasmum hi

I'm well. 15 weeks tomorrow :)

I'll be going back to work this week. Also have a follow up appointment on the 3rd

Norasmum · 22/05/2021 11:59

@Mysleepingangel amazing! Glad you are doing well and you feel well enough to be back at work :)

I had my scan on Thursday and cervix is slightly shorter than last time, consultant didn’t seem too worried but he’s asked me to come back this Thursday and I read in my notes that if it’s any shorter he’s going to do the stitch. I’m not sure how I feel, I didn’t realise there was such a risk of breaking waters with the needle and now I’m terrified. I’ve been trying to look up statistics for how common it is to make me feel better but there just seems to be no information online.
My consultant is really good at what he does and I’m sure I am in safe hands, but I can’t help thinking what if. I think when the worst has already happened to you, you can’t help but think the worst every time.

Mysleepingangel · 22/05/2021 12:20

@Norasmum thank you.
yes I can second your feelings on imagining the worst.

To be honest waters can go even with the stitch sometimes, so there isn't end to the worrying.

What I have realised and tried to do is to take one day at a time. I have small milestones and I don't think too far ahead. It has helped me alot and I'm close to the marker when I lost my first baby, feel its crucial I think of good things and don't think too far ahead of myself. I completely get the feeling of being overwhelmed and I do have that sometimes, but you do what you can and leave the rest.
Your consultant sounds experienced and I'm sure you will be fine :)
Try not to worry

Hi everyone, so I have my measurement being done on the 16 June...am I right to assume it is internal? Do they show you baby too or just do the measurement? The letter doesn’t give any details just says “cervix scan”.
Thank you in advance!

LJB1234 · 22/05/2021 18:19

@Mysleepingangel glad you're doing well!

@Norasmum completely understand why you would be feeling anxious, and thinking the worst. The good thing is you're being regularly monitored by an experienced consultant, and he won't do the procedure if he doesn't think its best. From what I've read they have to say there is a risk of waters breaking etc but in reality with an experienced consultant it is rare for there to be issues. I've also read that cervixes can change/shorten/lengthen all the time so you may go back and it has grown again!

@happygolucky20 it should be an internal as that is much more accurate. With mine they did a very quick glance abdominally to check heartbeat and then did the internal. It wasn't too bad, certainly not like a smear. The worst part was having to sit and wait an hour afterwards to hear the results!

thank you @LJB1234 Just surprised at the complete lack of information but that's where mumsnet comes into play :)

LJB1234 · 22/05/2021 19:18

Oh I know, Mumsnet has definitely been my most helpful source haha. My scan at 16 weeks went quite well and they're not concerned about the length, but that means they're not going to check again which really worries me in case it does shorten and no one notices!

Hi ladies,

Please may I have some help? I'm currently 17w pregnant and had a LLETZ in 2019 to remove CIN2 cells, I have been asked to find my report showing how much was removed (as was at a different hospital to where my antenatal care is so they don't have access to it) as if the measurement is over 10mm then I will need a cervical scan to check my cervix is ok for the pregnancy. This is the measurements, should I just be looking at the depth measurement of 10mm or is it the 34mm that they'll be looking at? Trying to work out if I'll be offered a scan or not. Sorry, new to all this and don't know what I'm looking for. Thanks all
