Itching in pregnancy

Hello,

Looking for peoples experiences of itching during pregnancy.

I'm 19w and for a few weeks have been getting little prickles all over my body, so one moment it's my leg, then upper arm, then stomach and it's just dots at me in different places. I don't really know how else to describe it.

I'm not sure if it's pregnancy or maybe an anxiety thing...

Hi OP, speak to your midwife about it as it could be obstetric cholestatis. Of course, it could be nothing too.

In two out of three if my pregnancies I’ve had random itchy times that come and go.

I had this and it was so annoying. If you get it checked out as per the message from the poster above and it turns out to be nothing serious then E45 itch relief cream is really good.

Thank you ladies. I have a midwife appt on Friday so will mention it.

I had this and it was horrendous!
As pp get your bloods etc checked.
Mine came back fine but I couldn’t stop itching still and was up all night, my doc saw the state of my skin from scratching and prescribed me cream.

I had this in early pregnancy and it turned out I was low on iron, once it went to normal levels with supplements it stopped. Hope it's an easy fix for you too.

obstetric cholestatis is mostly hands and feet (I had it in my first pregnancy) but it’s always worth asking. Itching in pregnancy is very normal though!

LoveSleeping · 27/04/2021 19:19

I had obstetric cholastasis and the only place I DIDN'T itch was my hands and feet!

It's so annoying! I feel like I'm covered in falling dust or something. I know I have low iron so that's interesting too.

Oh I'm so itchy! I had it last time and had it early on so was confident it wasn't cholestatis but I did end up asking last time just in case (I have a relative who had it, not nice).

I itch where my clothes touch, aveeno helps a lot. Interesting about iron though, I've been struggling with taking my aspirin and my multivitamin so the aspirin has been taking priority, thanks for that info.

OP hope iron/cream/reassuring chat with midwife all helps to take the edge off it for you, it's such a minor-sounding thing isn't it but I sympathise how bloody frustrating it is to have!

I was super itchy from about 5-11 weeks. Started with random itches here and there and then developed into full blown hives all down my arms and legs for about a month, honestly it was awful, especially at night. I tried changing my washing powder, shower gel and prenatal vitamins as it seemed to coincide with switching from just folic acid and vit d to pregnacare but not sure if any of that helped. Doctor and midwife couldn’t shed much light on it but they prescribed an emollient and I found aveeno and the e45 itch relief helped. Hope it gets better soon, it’s horrid!
