10 week bloods-antibody testing?

Looking for a bit of info as my MW wasn’t very clear, she’s been pushing for me to get a blood test ASAP which she’s saying is because I had a MC previously and they need to test for antibodies because of that...? I have had 2 successful pregnancies and then a MC and now pregnant again. I know I am not Rhesus negative (proven by 2 previous blood typing and a long history of blood donation!) so what is she referring to? Thanks if anyone could shed a bit of light!

Bit of an odd one. If there was a problem with previous bloods surely they would have mentioned it before now. Maybe call your GP's and ask if there is anything on your record to do with it. There are other rhesus factors which you have potential to develop antibodies for.

@Chelyanne thanks. My first did have ABO incompatibility (which I told them about at booking in) but this seemingly only became an issue after birth. Would that issue this time be able to be seen in my bloods now (in which case why haven’t they been checking for it in other pregnancies?)

I'm on pregnancy number 3, no miscarriages. They check antibodies as standard at booking and 28 weeks. It is especially important with subsequent pregnancies. The reason is that with your first it is unlikely that babies blood will mix with yours, but after deliveries (and presumably especially after MC) it is possible and if baby had a different blood group to you then you may produce antibodies which could cause problems.

I was a bit worried about my results as although I'm A+, husband is A- and i have a subamniotic hematoma which they think may have been feotal origin (where umbillical joins placenta). Happily all clear.

Any reason you don't want your bloods taken? Its standard practice at booking.

I've not heard of that being screened for during pregnancy but maybe it's been added in recently. I'd ask your midwife to clarify what they are looking for.

@Muststopeating no I’m not adverse to the bloods, it’s just the MW initially said they would just do them at my dating scan, but then when that wasn’t looking like it’s going to be for a while (full schedule due to a number of community scan units being closed) she has now called with some urgency to make an appointment to take bloods and mentioned the MC as a particular reason why they needed to be done sooner rather than later... so I’m just left wondering why in particular because it wasn’t explained. My MC was at 8ish weeks (and a MMC as I found out at 12 week scan) so I’m a bit paranoid if it could have been caused by something other than ‘just one of those things’...
