Has anyone been given any clear advice from midwife or consultant on whether or not you need to shield now in the third trimester? I did try asking and was just told to stick to the rules for the general public and use common sense. I’ve had friends asking to meet in cafes etc but not sure what the risks are. Same with swimming I’d like to take my toddler to the pool but on the other hand a bit scared. Think I’m struggling to think properly and be decisive now the lack of sleep (due to mega bump) is kicking in Grin TIA xx

There is no advice to shield, the advice is just the same as for everyone else - so washing hands a lot, social distancing etc. It’s up to you to decide what you do and don’t feel safe doing. But the advice regarding working in jobs where you cannot social distance - eg NHS, teachers is still the same so they are told to move to a non-people facing role or work from home, so take from that what you will! I’m over cautious but I know a lot of pregnant women are happy to do the things you’ve mentioned x

Ah thanks. Maybe that’s why the midwife didn’t offer up much then. After a long winter of everything being closed I’m so keen to do a bit more, especially to take my toddler out, but also torn as it doesn’t seem that much longer to be cautious and wait when I’ve already waited so long!

The advice from the government still remains the same, mainly in regards to working post 28 weeks.

I’ve been very careful throughout and especially since 28 weeks. If I can’t work facing people in my opinion I should be limiting mixing with people - I haven’t been in a supermarket or shop since before Christmas, but recognise I’m lucky my husband & family can do for me.

My employers have been extremely supportive and I’ve been working from home. On advise from the midwife as well as reading the above government guidance. I’m a Youth Worker so pretty risky role.

I just go out for walks, see my family in the garden since we are allowed and to attend appointments. I’m probably a little more cautious and anxious though, I know many pregnant women who have continued ‘normally’ but for me it’s just too big a risk when I’ve read cases of pregnant ladies getting Covid in their third trimester and baby being delivered early to priorities mums health.
