Babymoon thoughts?!

Me and my partner were originally going to have one last year of travelling the world last year which obviously didn't happen due to covid the plan was to always to get pregnant this year which we were so lucky to, I'm now just over 20 weeks! We're currently debating whether to go on a babymoon in Europe to wherever Boris adds on the green list after the 17th May! Just wondering other peoples thoughts on this and whether it's silly to chance it at the moment or should we go and just try to relax?

Go somewhere in the uk. Lovely spa, post hotel. A lot safer in my mind.

I cant even think of potential abroad trips - the uncertainty, possibility of late cancellations, added expense of pre flight covid tests, 10 days isolation on return....its just not worth it.

And that's without adding in risks of covid and pregnancy.

Just look for somewhere nice in the UK.

I'd go if you're allowed! I have great memories of our babymoon in a gorgeous, peaceful gite in the South of France. I had an awful pregnancy and couldn't get around much so it was perfect for us. I think I was about 32 weeks when we went and we drove there so no issues with flying pregnant. We stopped for a week at the beach on the way back to break up the journey.

Obviously, that was before the pandemic but going abroad doesn't have to involve flights and being in packed bars, restaurants and tourist attractions. It's lovely just spending time connecting with your DP before everything changes forever.

We were looking at trying to go abroad but have decided it's just not worth the risk given other countries rates. Instead we're looking at booking ourselves in a spa for a couple of days and just having some time to relax and chill out (also - if I went anywhere else I'd just be miserable that I couldn't drink all the wine).

I think we're going to try to go away in the autumn to Europe when hopefully rates abroad are lower and we'll just take the little one with us.

I am 23 weeks now and 100% having a little trip once things ease on 17th may! I'd love to go abroad but will probs my be somewhere in the uk just for a few nights.

I have a toddler and am soon to have a baby too so I think a nice relaxing break (toddler free) will be lovely before the chaos begins.

NotMeekNotObedient · 27/04/2021 10:28

We have booked a UK break instead.

Moominmiss · 27/04/2021 10:55

We e also booked a UK break.
We felt there was too much uncertainty around the need for vaccine passports, paying for pcr tests, quarantine, and just the actual risk of catching covid in third trimester.

We plan on hopefully doing a family holiday abroad next year with my older children too.

TheGlitterFairy · 27/04/2021 11:08

We'll be having a UK break for a few days. Would love to go overseas but hoping to do that later in the year (with baby)

paralysedbyinertia · 27/04/2021 11:09

Have you been vaccinated, OP? If not, I wouldn't risk it personally. Go somewhere nice in the UK instead?

Tallybeebloom · 27/04/2021 11:20

We've talked about this. I have a campervan so we were thinking of driving somewhere in that meaning we can avoid hotels and people and just visit some beautiful places. I'm still not 100% on whether we will go ahead with it though as I was just reading yesterday about how serious the complications with Covid can be later in pregnancy. As much as I really want to I don't know if it's worth the risk. I definitely wouldn't be flying anywhere or staying in hotels though without the vaccine, I would only go somewhere I could drive to and either stay in my van or spend the whole trip in a self - catered villa or something.

For this reason we’ve booked a log cabin place with stunning lake views. No other people on top of us and busy hotels etc.

I have and so has my partner due to our jobs! I've just had a quick look at some uk breaks and some of them are more expensive than going abroad, who knows what we'll do at this point!

If you haven't been vaccinated, I wouldn't.

I'm in Ireland and there have been a number of news stories about how the more recent variants are leading to an increased number of hospitalisations and stillbirths in the third trimester - its still very very rare, but they didn't see this for the first year and are just getting a handle on it all now. I think travelling out of the country increases your risk of exposure to new variants and risks that aren't quantifiable, plus the risk of needing hospital treatment abroad, etc etc.

If you go, I'd research specialist travel insurance as I know from looking into when pregnant last time its surprising how many policies don't offer coverage from early on, or don't cover the baby in case of premature birth, etc.

HR313 · 27/04/2021 11:37

I personally wouldn’t want to go abroad plus I’m not vaccinated either. When we were expecting our first baby, we stayed in a lovely little B&B on the North North coast. It was perfect and now expecting number 2 in September, I’m quite tempted to do the same again just me and my OH.

unicornpower · 27/04/2021 11:53

I personally wouldnt risk going abroad, there are so many gorgeous places here to explore too! We've booked a a few days on the coast and i can't wait to get away with DH and The dogs before baby comes :) maybe a spa break with great views/things to do?

Upupupintheair · 27/04/2021 11:55

We’ll definitely be having a baby moon / summer holiday this year! We’re planning Greece in June and the south of France in august (we’ll drive to France or get the train as i won’t be able to fly by then).

Caszekey · 27/04/2021 11:56

I'd probably stay in the UK tbh, constantly worrying what's going to happen up to the moment you leave, changes to quarantine whilst you're away etc.

Of course if you want a week on a beach somewhere you're going to struggle but make sure you've got good insurance
