So , I'm almost 20 weeks pregnant , I carried 2 up untill 19 weeks and unfortunately my son passed due too a growth problem. However I've noticed if I spend too much time sitting in the car my bottom and top thighs hurt very much. Like hurts too much that I become agitated and grumpy. Has anyone else had this? I feel baby start moving now but I no he's a chubby little guy and I'm also diabetic so expected big baby (I'm well controlled so don't worry). I live 45 mins from my hospital so if anyone has any tips on sitting comfortably can someone help?

Hiya,

I had this during the second half of my pregnancy and I couldn't sit for long periods of time. Towards the end I found it difficult sitting more and more. The back of my thighs and bum would hurt. I got checked out and it was actually phlebitis! They didn't do anything for it but just told me to look out for warning signs of a blood clot. It was one of those things I just had to deal with, but as soon as I had baby it pretty much went! Do you have any redness?

Hi,

I have just come across this post. I am just over 6 weeks pregnant. I have lower back ache which seems quite early on in the pregnancy. I contacted the gp who said it can just be the body getting used to all the hormones etc.

Did any of you ladies experience any back pain quite early on? Mine tends to more so on an evening and then I'm fine in the morning.

ChickenNuggetRose · 25/04/2021 22:02

@Ivfmarch2021 I had really bad lower back ache for around the first 12 weeks then it disappeared! I couldn't believe how quickly I got back pain too! Hopefully it goes for you soon too 😊

Ivfmarch2021 · 25/04/2021 22:04

@ChickenNuggetRose thank you for your reply! Just seems reassuring to hear that as you can read so many things online!

ChickenNuggetRose · 25/04/2021 22:30

@Ivfmarch2021 You're welcome! I know, googling made me worry quite a few times throughout 😩 But all was fine 😊 I read it's quite common!

Is there anything you guys tried or used which helped the back ache?

ChickenNuggetRose · 26/04/2021 11:24

@francesca745 Have you tried a pillow or trying to constantly try to change position slightly? Such as leaning on one side more then keep changing to the other!

@Ivfmarch2021 Midwife told me to take paracetamol if really bad but I didn't do that, I used a heat pad on my lower back and it really helped!

Ivfmarch2021 · 26/04/2021 12:20

@ChickenNuggetRose thanks yes I don't really fancy taking medications either. I'll try a heat pad

I also suffered with back pain early pregnancy and it did get better for me , I told the midwifes and they didn't seem concerned also advised paracetamol but I didn't think appropriate (I'm an over thinker) but it did ease after a while xx

Look up spd or pgp.

I get very uncomfortable sitting as it buggers up my hip alignment, if I doze off on the sofa I struggle to walk at 1st but better after a wander. Walking a lot causes pain too but I can still lift weights in the gym oddly enough, though I am more mindful of my joint positioning in the gym.

Chelyanne · 26/04/2021 13:02

I avoid painkillers as much as possible, I had lots of pain with our twins but managed on minimal paracetamol in the last trimester. A hot water bottle can be really helpful for hip and back trouble.

Is the pain in your bottom your coccyx (tailbone)? During pregnancy, hormones make your ligaments relax, so this can cause pain basically anywhere there are ligaments (which is pretty much everywhere!!). Everybody is different in their hormone levels, how stretchy their ligaments are, etc. I got bad pain in my coccyx from around 18 weeks and it started much earlier this time around, about 8/9 weeks although it's not as bad yet (17 weeks) as it got last time. I have a coccyx cushion which does help, but ultimately just couldn't spend more than an hour or so sitting and had to regularly get up and move, stand as much as possible, sit in positions where there wasn't so much pressure on the area such as leaning on to your side (but this isn't good for your posture...) etc. I had a thin coccyx cushion from work initially as that was my main issue (office based) but it didn't help much, bought myself a more expensive super thick one from Amazon which did really help. I had to take it with me everywhere last time if I was going to be sitting anywhere e.g. other people's houses, car, cinema, restaurants. Bit of a faff but better that than being in terrible pain. I was advised to take paracetamol for the pain but it didn't help at all so soon stopped that. GP said there was nothing else they could do and hopefully it would resolve after birth. I did a lot of my labour in a supine position still on the cushion and I was worried about injuring my Coccyx further during birth, as this is common, particularly as I had an instrumental delivery. However luckily I didn't and within a few weeks after the birth it was gone. I haven't completely gone back to how I was before as I still very occasionally get pain if spending long periods of time on hard chairs, which I never had prior to my first pregnancy, but that's very rare and otherwise I was fine. Hoping it will disappear after birth this time as well.

Ivfmarch2021 · 26/04/2021 13:35

@Chelyanne yes I find if I've been on my feet more, then I have it quite bad at the end of the day. I try just lay down in bed to help.

@MeadowHay it seems to be right at the bottom of my spine in the centre part (not very scientific lol!)

Just along with the nauseasous feeling and back pain just makes you feel terrible! This is my first pregnancy so it feels as if you are just bogged down but I'm hoping it all gets better soon enough!

Thankyou so much this was very helpful , yes I've had very bad problems with the relaxation of my body so it's most likely that. I got a pressure cushion today and it helped so so much not fully but it was better than a hard seat. :) il speak too the hospital on Thursday and go from there

Hi, just wondering if anyone has had their 20 week scan and found out the gender? Do they usually get it right. We were shown his bit and told its definitely a boy. Anyone experienced anything similar or anything?
