Hi 🙋🏻‍♀️, anyone else been prescribed aspirin in pregnancy? I know it's supposed to have a preventative measure for pre eclampsia - and my risk factors are age 38 and bmi 37 ... not had any BP issues etc - going to ask my consultant if this is necessary - worried about bleeding risks with vag childbirth or CS - anyone any experience with aspirin throughout pregnancy? How did they mitigate the bleeding risk etc, thanks x

I took it with my son and had no issues, I have been taking it from 11 wks with my second and am 21 wks. It's quite common to be prescribed it I think. Like you I have never had issues but am taking it due to bmi.

I’ve just been told to take it for bmi and I am but it is worrying me as I bled when I had my first. The midwife didn’t think I would need it but the consultant didn’t agree

I've been taking it since 11 weeks.

I had preeclampsia in my last pregnancy and had my daughter at 30 weeks. The most traumatic experience of my life, from which I still haven't recovered fully.

The effects of low dose aspirin aren't strong enough to make bleeding a huge concern, but you'll likely stop taking it at 36 weeks anyway.

Honestly, having been through preeclampsia its well worth taking to try to prevent it. Its an absolutely awful illness and its impacts are life long.

I’ve been taking 150mg a day since ovulation and am now 19 weeks.

I started taking it off my own back after several miscarriages as I’d read lots about how it can help.

But I’m also 38 and had a bmi of 31 at my booking appointment and my midwife and consultant were both in agreement that I remain on the aspirin until into third trimester. I will be having a c section and will stop taking it 2-3 weeks prior to my section date.

Yes on 150mg since 12 week scan as my BP rose the week before I gave birth last time so am a risk for pre-eclampsia.

Also you'll stop taking it at 36 weeks and it's a low dose so shouldn't be a bleed risky.

I'm on them for risks of pre eclampsia, reduced growth. 2x 75mg have a very low bleeding risk tbh. I've got cuts and scrapes and not bled any more than I normally would. It's still somthing you have to declare if you have early labour.

But the other day I had to have bloods taken and the doctor struggled to get blood from me.

I'm on 150mg of aspirin and haven't noticed cuts bleed more but I do bruise a lot more than I usually would. When I go for bloods they always struggle to get any out, despite being on the aspirin.
I had a PPH when my first daughter was born, not sure if this was linked to the aspirin (75mg prescription in that pregnancy) or not.

I took aspirin on my last pregnancy I gave birth in July at 36 weeks(induction) I was on it from 16 weeks, for BP and BMI and I was 37, I bled a touch more than with my first but nothing too much with a vaginal birth,it was got under control within 5 minutes and I never felt worried or had any issues after, was home 24 hours later

Thanks all for replies, just to update - I communicated my concerns to consultant and she was very informative and said 1 in 3 women will be on baby aspirin throughout pregnancy - and it really is very safe x

I'm glad i opened this thread, I'm on it and nobody has said I should stop at 36 weeks although I'm sure they will nearer the time. I'm on it as previously had a small baby.

Just means I maybe don't need to buy many more boxes as I pick one up every time I see them having had several times they've been out of stock, or those nasty little dispersible things 😂
