It's giving me so much anxiety i can't sleep at night. There is always fear of losing him.i had 4 extra scan everything fine. Under consultant care. Again have scan after a week just had scan on last wed. Everything was fine. Please share your experience.

My last baby definitely had quiet days and busy days but even on a quiet day he would be active in the evening.

My midwife always recommended learning patterns so if the pattern changes then ring in.

Lastly - if you are worried you should get checked.

Hopefully not much longer!

Of our 7 NCT families most except us, except me, had a panic day due to less movement and went for a scan. All were fine and some woke up when the scan started!

Our baby was a fierce kicker, particularly by my heart, rarely took a break and resulted in me having horrendous heartburn all the time.

Everyone is a bit different but I'd say less movement days are normal judging by the others.

I am very much a what will be will be kind of person, which also makes me not worry about things I cannot change.

But this is not very helpful in the context of baby movements, where you might be able to change the outcome if you notice something is averse and the doctors are able to induce labour in order to get the baby out sooner.

@Coxobaby I'm 31 weeks, baby is constantly moving, really obvious movements and a definite pattern, but she definitely has quieter days, last week I had two days where she barely moved at all, was going to go to to maternity unit and they picked up! X

AnxiousAnnie86 · 25/04/2021 14:37

I wouldn't worry about bothering them! That's what they are there for, if something doesn't feel right go get checked out x

@AnxiousAnnie86 is everything was fine?

@Coxobaby yeah she's kicking away and moving like normal again, but it was a few days of hardly anything!!! I've been three times for reduced movement since 20 weeks x

I feel the same as many PP - I'm 33 weeks tomorrow and really haven't discerned any pattern to movements at all. Since I first felt baby move, she has had very active days followed by much quieter days. I've mentioned it when asked abt movements and been told it is totally normal. I did ring MAU a couple of evenings ago as it stressed me out a bit how much quieter she was compared to the few preceding days and they said it's what's normal for your baby that matters. I read something on here once about the fact that babies in utero don't think in days and nights like we do - so although we might feel that our babies should fit into particular daily patterns, their patterns might be across random chunks of time - hence spotting them becomes quite difficult! I think it is just normal for my baby to have active days and then less active days and I try not to worry about it - it sounds like your baby might be the same.

I would echo PPs and suggest that you talk your anxiety through with your midwife and let her know the impact the worry is having on your life.

And finally - if you are concerned about your baby's movements, ask yourself "am I happy with my baby's movements or do I feel that something is very different?" If you feel something is different from what is normal for your baby (and it does sound like it may be normal for your baby to have active periods then less active ones) then call and go in for monitoring.

I could've written this post myself. I'm 38 weeks an exactly the same. I have days where I barely feel baby and some days with lots of movement. Never had a pattern either. Caused me so much anxiety the whole way through. My first was never like this. I do have an anterior placenta, but I did with my first and it never affected things. I really do think some babies are just like this. Sorry not much help for you but you aren't alone!

The thing I find hardest about baby movements is that you are solely responsible for them... noone can tell you what is normal for you or not. And that is incredibly hard.

I am 28 weeks pregnant with my 3rd baby and have been to triage twice across all 3 (once when baby was actually moving too much but I had just had some scary news about the baby).

I have now realised that all 3 of my babies have a certain position where I cannot feel a thing no matter how much they move. I quite often can go all day and think I've not felt anything, the trigger for me would be in the evening when I sit down. If I didn't feel anything then (when baby always has at least one active period) then I'd phone triage.

Other days the baby is bouncing around all day.

So I'd say that my normal is definitely to have some active and some lazy days. I don't monitor hour to hour, I consider the day as a whole. As long as she has a bouncy period I know she is okay.

For me, personally, I would only go to triage if I didn't feel her at all all day or if I could feel some movements but they were extremely lethargic compared to normal.

I am one of those people who's first thought is am I wasting someones time. Equally I'd be wasting my own since traige is a 2 hour round trip and I have 2 DC that would need looking after if DH was working away. I find that helps to keep me balanced in the face of the worry that we all face when pregnant.
