Hi all, I’ve just been diagnosed with GD sat 35+ weeks, and at my 36 week app told I’ve also got hyperthyroidism. 4th pregnancy first time with either of these conditions. Consultant has spoke about possible induction at 40+1. But looking at research available there is an increased risk of having to have a section due to both conditions. Does anyone have any advice or experience with having both conditions?

My mum had GD and hyperthyroidism with one of my younger siblings, can't remember if she was induced but I know she didn't have a c section. Sorry I don't know more detail. Good luck x

I had both GD and Hypothyroidism, was induced @ 40 weeks even though baby was average size, and had forceps delivery. GD went away, but Hypothyroidism has stayed with me. Good luck Flowers

If you have had 3 vaginal births in the past then the risk of a caesarean is much much lower than someone who is on their first baby. Induction at 40 weeks is because GD can cause the placenta to deteriorate slightly quicker than usual. There is also a huge study released a few years ago that shows induction at or beyond 39 weeks doesn't increase the caesarean section rate for anyone.

Thank you. Just doesn’t help when the consultants basically tell you the risk factors and then dismiss you.
