Bottle feeding

Hi All,

I'm currently pregnant and planning on bottle feeding. I have health conditions and will need to get back on my medication quickly after delivery so bottle feeding has been advised as the best option for me.

I want to try and make my life easy where I can so my question is I've seen machines available to make up bottles. Has anyone got any experience with these? Which models are good to look at? Is there anything specific to look out for or avoid?

TIA everyone 😘

The Tommee Tippee prep machines are an absolute god send, they usually cost around £60 but are well worth it. They make bottles to the perfect temperature in less than a minute, I don't know how people cope without one Smile

I personally wasn't comfortable with the perfect prep. There's some concerns over the heat of the hot shot and if the machine meets the requirements for making formula. No disrespect to people who use them and find them useful but as a very anxious first time mum it wasn't for me.

I had a kettle that boiled water then kept it at 70 for mixing with formula. I'd make up a bottle as required and put it in cold water to cool. By the time I'd done a nappy change it was a good temp for drinking.

I used the Perfect Prep once when we stayed at a friend's and it was good but I wouldn't say it made any significant difference day to day tbh. I'd recommend a newborn starter kit to take to hospital. Then we would make up the bottles for the next day the night before and keep in the fridge then warm as needed the next day. Although I wasn't exclusicely formula feeding until 12 weeks so by that time she was on a pretty predictable feeding schedule and I knew how many bottles to make up etc. For out and about unless a bottle was due imminently I would just take a sterilised bottle with a small bottle of premade formula and then pour that into the bottle when needed. If I new the feed would be within half an hour I'd take one from the fridge in a coolbag. We had a Tonne Tippee electric steriliser which was good and we used bottle brushes to wash the bottles. We used Phillips Avent bottles but not for any particular reason but never had an problems with them. We used Cow and Gate formula because it was sold in all our closest local shops and it was much cheaper than some other brands.

I use the Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep and have been for 7 months. It's great, no complaints and would recommend.

I used the perfect prep for both of mine and still use it to make bottles of peppermint tea for my one year old or hot chocolate for my three year old.

Like pp suggested I took a newborn starter kit into hospital with both of my children. I would also take ready made bottles in my changing bag for out and about to use with a sterilised bottle

We use the old method of pre-making and storing in the fridge but it tends to be frowned upon these days (was the norm when we had our 1st). Make up as instructed then rapidly cool in a jug of water and store for up to 24hrs in the back of the fridge, reheat with a jug of boiling water.

Perfect prep is amazing!! Highly recommend this, as long as it's cleaned regularly etc
