Which breast pump is compatible with nanobebe bottles?

Currently 7 months pregnant and looking to breastfeed DC. I have had a look at bottles etc for the possibility of expressing (hoping to fully breastfeed but would like to have bottles at home as back up) and I really like the nanobebe bottles.

They have great reviews, replicate the shape of the breast etc although the only thing putting me off is what breast pump will they be compatible with? The website states compatible with Medela and Ameda but also says that the bottles are compatible with "most standard breast pumps".

I was hoping to be able to shop around for breast pumps.

I'm just curious to know if anyone has the nanobebe bottles and if so which pump do you use?

Hi! So I have used these nanobebe bottles a few times, without giving it away I work in a specific place where I bottle feed babies on the regular.

I think you can use the nabobebe with quite a lot of brands as it comes with a Nanobebe Adapter (double check but I think they do). Brands like Medela, Spectra, Ameda... these will be compatible.

I do want to give an honest response. The first time I saw this bottle I was a bit taken aback because I'd never seen anything like it thus far. We all sort of gawked over it for a while. I liked the design, I really liked the concept, and I was super excited to try them. They felt and looked good quality, seemed easy enough to put together and clean.

This is my personal experience so take from it what you will! I found that the angle was quite awkward to get the last 20ish mls out from the bottle. I really didn't like how it felt when I held it, it just wasn't very comfortable for me. The babies I fed didn't seem very sure of them and took a long time to feed (and I never rush them, but it was a long time and I desperately wanted to make these bottles work for their mums, but I could tell they were not keen). Over a few uses I noticed it also started to leak slightly. I drew my opinion that these are quite expensive bottles for them to have these results, and I got quite cross on the parents behalf because this bottle seems to promise a lot but just didn't deliver.

Other people I'm sure have had great experiences with them, I remember seeing good reviews when I researched the Nanobebe bottles. I also found some bad reviews. Just like with anything baby-related it seems! I absolutely love a MAM/Tommy Tippee so hopefully when I come to breastfeed that is what I would personally use. But what you choose is entirely up to you, and definitely keep looking around at all the feedback and reviews for the products. Let me know if you do end up using them though, and how you find it, I'd be genuinely interested!

@lavenderlib thank you so much for your reply. I think the fact there is so many breast pumps available its becoming quite overwhelming so I'm hoping someone who has used these bottles can direct me to a pump they found suited these bottles perfectly.

The whole look idea is what's got me swaying towards them but I'm a bit gutted to hear your experience with them was slight leaking and the babies not taking to them too well. I'm hoping to Purley breastfeed no bottles up until I return to work so I was hoping with the design of the bottle that my little one would take to the bottle without any hassle.

I will 100% keep reading reviews and take it from there but I will be sure to keep you informed if/when I use them.

Thanks again 😀

@M24L @M24L I think it's more likely than not that it will work with the breast pumps that you have in mind for yourself but definitely worth double checking. I've just looked at the Adapter set 2 pack online and it looks like the standard adapters for most breast pumps. It comes with both sizes for £4.50, the standard adapter will work for Medela and Ameda pumps while the wide neck adapter will work for Spectra pumps. I suppose it'll be a case of identifying a breast pump first and perhaps getting in contact with Nanobebe customer service to get some clarity on if it will work or not - they will know for sure!

I'm so sorry I let you down with my personal experience of it, but you may have a completely entirely different time with it! I am just one stranger on the Internet ultimately so keep doing your research. It could be definitely worth trialling it, maybe just buy one of the bottles and see how baby takes it? Hopefully baby completely loves it and then you can look at getting the full lot. I hope if you do get it that it works for you, and hey - I could change my own mind about it for my own baby, because I really love the concept of it too. Hope you have a lovely day Smile

I breastfed with my first and expressed from 6 weeks.
I used a Medela pump, but didn't get on with the teat for the Medela bottles. There is absolutely nothing to stop you expressing into and storing in a medela bottle, then pouring into the bottle you want for feeding. I generally kept 1 bottle in the fridge and then froze any excess in freezeable storage bags. (Most brands sell them).
From memory, you can keep it in the fridge for 3 days, so I just worked out a system of how much I needed and froze the rest. It came in very handy to have a freezer stash when my daughter got older and went to grandparents or nursery for the day!
Personally, my daughter got on fine with Tommee Tippee bottles and couldn't manage the Medela teat that was supposedly most like a nipple.
They mostly tell you not to start expressing until 6 weeks to allow your milk supply to establish and so you don't cause mastitis... but we offered a bottle every day from 6 weeks so we didn't leave it too late and she didn't know what to do with it :-)

@lavenderlib I completely never thought about finding one then checking with nanobebe themselves (pregnancy brain doesn't work the same🤣) I will research a few pumps and take it from there.

I think I will trial it and see how we get on as it's really seeming like trial and error with any bottle at this moment.

Thank you so much 🥰 have a great weekend x

@SillyBry thank you for your advice I can maybe look into just purchasing a pump and bottle which I know will work with it then transfer.

Do you think it's best to introduce a bottle early? Due to the pandemic no breastfeeding support classes etc are on in my area so I'm basing my plans on googling etc never really thought about the introduction of bottles being an issue so this is something I feel I may now take into account.

Just to say, mimicking the shape of a breast is in no way relevant to whether or not a bottle will cause nipple confusion and also not relevant to whether the baby will take it.

IME it doesn't much matter whether you introduce one early or not. People swear by this but in reality most babies will take a bottle, there are a significant majority who refuse, but it doesn't seem to have any correlation with whether or not it's been introduced early or regularly or anything like that.

In addition it's the shape of the actual bottle which is boob like with this, not the teat, which is the part the baby cares about.

@M24L I found this website super helpful with all sorts of random breastfeeding questions: kellymom.com/
I just followed advice to start offering at 6 weeks, mainly as I was scared of pumping too early and getting engorged/mastitis!
I found offering it when she was quite sleepy/not mega hungry was good first off as she was less desperate/frustrated and warming the milk helped. But it's just a bit of trial and error in the early days.
If you're struggling in the early days, I think there are quite a lot of mum/baby support groups opening up, so I'd hope breastfeeding support is included in that. I went to my local breastfeeding clinic lots to check there was nothing wrong as I had quite a lot of pain. (I think my poor nipples were just horrified to be used and abused!) But it was worth it - they did identify a small tongue tie that affected her latch - hospitals are renowned for being a bit rubbish at checking tongue ties.
It's definitely worth spending money on a decent pump - I used mine daily for the first 10 months and then mutiple times a day when I went back to work and she was at nursery.
You can also get pumps like a Haakaa, which effectively collects any overspill from the boob you aren't feeding from - I've not tried them, but they seem to be a cheap time saver :)

I also use a Medela pump but other bottles, I just transfer across before using the milk! My Medela pump still going strong on DC3.
