Those who have got far enough, anyone have BH contractions that hurt?

Also if anyone has had them and given birth, Did it hurt like childbirth? (but I'm presuming worse?)

Yes and yes, but actually giving birth was...ooh...shall we say...a little bit worse

pucca · 12/11/2007 22:36

Yes they hurt, infact i pretty much thought "this is it" as my BH had me up, pacing the floor at 3am! and numerous times.

Similar sensation, BH V giving birth...but yes, worse giving birth!

LuckySalem · 12/11/2007 22:36

Damn it!!

I've been getting slight tightenings that I thought was probably BH but they don't hurt so I thought (or hoped) that maybe giving birth would be nice and easy too!!

DAMN IT!

Bh's are nothing like the real ones - Bh's are deeply uncomfy at worst without actually calling it painful - bloody annoying though
Sorry...
I've had 3 babies and had BH's from 18 wks with all 3, some so strong I could swear it was labour...
but you will know the difference..
My opinion is that Bh's get you ready nicly though... my deliveries have been quick and easy

gigglewitch · 12/11/2007 22:38

only got them in pg 3

well they thought it was that but DD arrived within the week so maybe it was actually early labour

umm, the real labour bit is a little bit different, but as you are asking the general tightening feeling is the same - only much stronger

it's the stuff nobody but mn-ers will tell ya, isn't it?!!

LuckySalem · 12/11/2007 22:41

yeh, i would ask my mum but she had a c-section so doesnt really know.

theres all sorts of things i wanna no but being the embarassed person that i am. anonymity is the only way 2 find out.

ask away, this lot are great at it

totally un-embarrassable and un-shockable

ScaryHairy · 12/11/2007 22:46

No, but they did take my breath away a bit.

A friend of mine had terrible BH - she would double over. In the end she had only had about an hour of labour, which did not hurt much more than the BH so no pain relief, and when they looked she was 10cm dilated. The whole thing took 2.5h from start to finish, so clearly there is a good side to having lots of BH.

LuckySalem · 12/11/2007 22:50

oh dear well i'm buggared then (unless this isnt the proper BH) hmmmm

Yes they bloody well do! I've been getting them since about 26 weeks (am 32 weeks now) and they have me doubled over and almost in tears sometimes. If labour is too much worse than that then I'd best book my caesarean now...

rainbowdays · 13/11/2007 09:31

I would say that if they are making you stop to breath etc, that it is a case of irritable uterus and true contractions, rather than braxton hicks, I got these with my first pregnancy. It was not until my second pregnancy that I got braxton hick contractions and thought - oh they don't actually hurt they are just little tightenings of the muscles, that I realised how much different it was from the true contractions of irritable uterus.

But I don't think that there is any link between braxton hicks and true labour being shorter or longer. With my first pregnancy, despite having been having true contractions from 33 weeks (measured at hospital), he came at 39 weeks and it was a heck of a long painful back labour, the contractions before had done nothing really productive, whereas with my second pg, I had plenty of ok BH's and a long pre-labour stage, the actual labour was fast and furious, but a doddle really compared to the first!.

So I would suggest not worrying about the actual labour being worse, it may or not be, it is only time that will tell!!!!

Luckysalem - you may have a gloriously easy birth too, some people do get it all ways!!! I hope you are one of the fortunate ones.

Sarahjct - are you sure that they are BH, could it be irritable uterus??

Sarahjct · 13/11/2007 10:52

Not sure Rainbow...off to google irritable uterus...

rainbowdays · 13/11/2007 11:19

Sarahjct - Hope you have founds some information. I googled it when I had it a couple of years ago, and very little info was available then. But I can tell you that my contractions got worse if I moved around and settled when I was resting. Towards the end I could only walk a very short distance before it triggered the contractions, going shopping became a case of walk half the ailse and then stop to breath though a couple of contractions, normally I would only make if half way around the supermarket before having to quit! It did help me practise the breathing technique for labour though !!!!
