Hi Everyone

Just found out I’m pregnant and just wondering when do you tell work?

Thanks

Have you got a proper contract? If not, don't tell them yet.

PinkCookie11 · 21/04/2021 09:58

I told my manager straight away to be honest.

Nic2020 · 21/04/2021 10:02

@FortunesFave yeh I’ve got a proper contract I’ve been working there for nearly 10 years

@PinkCookie11 oh perfect I just didn’t want to seem an eager beaver that was all 😂

I told everyone at work at 13 weeks and I liked having my own little secret for a while plus I don't like all the attention I now get too much. I have an easy office job though.

Thistimelastyear · 21/04/2021 10:03

I had to tell work at 7 weeks due to the environment I work in. It was lucky as I needed a lot of time off due to pregnancy.

PinkCookie11 · 21/04/2021 10:04

😂 nope!
I had to do several DSE’s with sitting at a desk all day, some of my duties changed due to heavy lifting etc. So depending on your job they’ll put the correct care into place.

PeanuttyButter · 21/04/2021 10:04

I was wondering the same thing tbh. Work for the NHS in a patient facing role, I don't want to tell them early and then it not stick but at the same time will need to do a new risk assessment etc.

BabyMoonPie · 21/04/2021 10:05

It depends on your job to an extent. If you are at risk at work you might want to tell them ASAP so a risk assessment can be done. I work in an office and waited until after my 12 week scan

xoxochellexoxo · 21/04/2021 10:05

I told my boss about a week or 2 after i found out purely because i work in retail and have alot of heavy lifting ect, i then told everybody else at work once id had my 12 week scan

PinkCookie11 · 21/04/2021 10:07

Yes should have added no one else knew other than my manager

Chelyanne · 21/04/2021 10:16

15 weeks before your due date.
If you need a risk assessment it's wise to tell them earlier though, most wait until after the dating scan but some earlier depending on their role.

Nat4392 · 21/04/2021 10:23

Legally, 15 weeks before your due date. Most people will tell them after 12 weeks. Personally I told mine as soon as I found out. They knew we were trying plus my job role needed to change for health and safety. Plus I had terrible sickness so it was much easier that they knew as it would have been impossible to hide.

Nic2020 · 21/04/2021 10:29

Ok thanks everyone, I think I might wait for my first appointment to come through and then just tell my manager when that comes... thankfully wfh I can hide away from my colleagues until I’m ready for them to know! Xx

On my first baby I told my manager almost straight away. The reason being was because we would often go out in her car lunch and she smoked.

Worriesome · 21/04/2021 10:58

@Nic2020 I told my manager under discretion quite early on only because I’m prone to sickness in my pregnancies and so I wanted her to know just in case I had a sick day or needed to attend appointments etc. Also because I’ve had previous miscarriages I would need to take time off if it were to happen again. You don’t have to tell anyone else until your comfortable x

Nic2020 · 21/04/2021 11:14

@Worriesome thank you, I think thats the things that’s worrying me is that if I suddenly start feeling unwell or tired etc. It’s then going to come out of the blue if they don’t know...

I thought I might let my manager know on Monday and then we’ve had a week of keeping it to ourselves xx

@Nic2020 yeah totally understand, as long as someone knows so if you were to be off sick then at least they are aware of your situation. Unfortunately pregnancy can be very unpredictable and there will be some tough days where getting out of bed seems like such a big task x

Congratulations! I told a colleague at 5 weeks because I was excited - she announced it to the team a week later when giving a speech for her birthday HmmConfused most people wait till around 12 weeks I think but may be worth considering sooner if you have bad morning sickness or overly tired. It's totally up to you - just be careful who you tell!
