What will happen with my wage?

From around 15/16 weeks pregnant I have been on the sick at work due to pregnancy related problems and the type of work that I do.

I am on a zero hour contract and my work don't pay sick pay so I have been getting statutory of just around £80 a week.

I know when pregnant women reach 28 weeks we are supposed to be off with full pay so I'm just a bit worried about what will happen to my pay then? Will I still be able to get sick pay?

Does anyone have any idea?

Sorry I can't help that much.
However I'm sure I had 6 weeks full pay. Then statutory maternity allowance. Back then was like £130 a week. But I thought if you earned less than that it would have to me maternity allowance which is about 80% of your wage each month and you send pay slips. However I think you can send any in under a year or a year and a half. I would look up Both statutory and maternity allowance. I'm sure you will get more helpful comments lol. This wa years ago.

Are you talking about maternity pay or sick pay OP?

Do you have a HR team you can talk to?

If you're on a zero hours contract I'm pretty sure you won't be paid, until you can claim maternity allowance.

You can use this link to work out how much maternity pay you might receive.

However you should discuss this with your employer.

shittingthreeeyedraven · 19/04/2021 21:48

The 28 week thing is dependent on your employer and where you work. The current government guidance is that IF distancing etc cannot be met then you should be given other roles/work from home and only if that can’t be done then you are effectively sent home on pay.

idontlikealdi · 19/04/2021 21:52

I don't think you'll flip from ssp to full pay at 28 weeks on a zero hours contract. You need to look at mat allowance, and if you are sick a certain number of weeks before delivery it triggers it early.

albeau · 19/04/2021 21:58

I will be getting smp, it's just the change when I get to 28 weeks I meant as I was told I would be off with full pay which would be an average of my last 3 or 6 months (that bit I can't remember). So I'm obviously hoping to stay on sick pay as my average is going to be nothing if based on the last 3 months.

I won't be able to return to work now before the baby is due, my type of work isn't safe with my pregnancy complications. I'd like to hold off starting mat leave until as late as possible still to get as much time off once the baby is born as possible.

Just not sure who I am best talking to about all this.

If you don’t get sick pay do you qualify for maternity pay?

Zen88 · 19/04/2021 22:09

Can you contact pregnant then screwed? They have an Instagram account with advisors

albeau · 19/04/2021 22:09

Yes I get statutory maternity pay

If you're currently getting SSP I don't think you'll receive maternity pay. Just maternity allowance.

tiggykate · 19/04/2021 22:14

For SMP to be calculated, employers use your earnings during the “qualifying period” which is roughly week 18-25 of pregnancy. If you’re earning a lot less than normal, your SMP will be a lot lower too. You may be better off on maternity allowance instead.

Hothammock · 19/04/2021 22:15

Statutory maternity pay is not full pay anyway so I'm not sure what you are describing. Best to speak to the HR contact for your employer

Sansa87 · 19/04/2021 23:48

I believe if you’re Medically suspended you get your contracted Salary. I think if you can’t work you will stay on sick pay until 36 weeks, then you will be put straight onto maternity pay. I got my full contracted pay from 28 to 36 weeks, & I’m now using annual leave until 39 weeks when I switch to maternity.

Your best bet is to talk to your HR department though.

This may help so that you have some facts before talking to HR (always best to go in armed with questions/ answers), there is a link if you need to contact them for more advice workingfamilies.org.uk/articles/your-rights-if-you-are-ill-during-pregnancy/
