What can help after membrane sweep?

So I'm 41 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child. I have had 2 membrane sweeps first at 40+1 which results in cramps and loosing my mucus plug.
I've just had my second one today where the midwife advised that my cervix is 2cm, baby is very low down and my waters are bulging..

I tried everything after my first sweep (spicy food, long walk, bouncing on ball, speed bumps the lot) and nothing seemed to work.

Has anyone had any success with helping to induce labour? Booked in for induction in a week but really don't want this to happen..

Honestly, nothing will really help. Baby comes when baby is ready etc etc.

It’s a fab sign that you’re so ready and I’m sure baby will be along soon. Best things you can do are to relax, do crab walks up and down the stairs and bounce on your back

Constant nipple stimulation.. I absolutely swear by it! I did it for around 1.5 hrs bouncing on a birthing ball watching crap tv and brought labour on immediately!

I agree with nipple stimulation! I'm in the same situation, had a sweep about 2 hours ago and have been tweaking my nipples ever since! Good luck, OP!

Have you tried just doing things that really enjoy? Your body need oxytocin to really get labour going so stock up on those happy hormones!

I have heard of midwifes recommending a glass of wine and a nice soak in the bath. Obviously make your own choices on the wine!

Or other people that had a BBQ with friends and that got things moving just because they were so relaxed and happy.

Sex.

Eating pineapple and core.

Thank you everyone! Just going to try and relax the best I can, little hard with a toddler though 🙈

Don't want to jinxs it but I've been having more intense cramps for the past half hour so I'm hoping that this will progress further this time 🤞🏼

I had three sweep and after the third I went for a long walk then ended up bouncing and swaying on my exercise ball and did some cooking (standing) which was what finally seemed to bring on my contractions in the end! I read an article (similar to this one) that recommended certain exercises that could help to dilate the cervix and tried to do them as often as possible!

I also tried eating dates, drinking raspberry leaf tea, using clary sage in an oil burner, relaxing bath, sex (epic fail, baby was too low, you can work out the rest 🤣) and nipple stimulation (might as well express some colostrum if you have a kit)! I'm not really convinced that any of these things had much of an effect, but I guess they won't do any harm if you try them!

Good luck, those cramps sound promising!

@CB0503 How did you get on? Hopefully your little one arrived safely? Mine finally joined us yesterday evening after keeping me waiting all week Grin

CB0503 · 19/05/2021 15:44

Ahh congratulations!! I started contractions at 4pm on the 19th April and then I had my boy on the 20th April at 00:21 after only having to push for 20 minutes 🙌🏼 happily home the same day with no stitches this time round!!
