Get kitty used to sleeping elsewhere- you can't have them in with you while you've got a newborn in there anyway.

If you start it now, it'll be less disruptive for kitty when baby is born. Win win.

How old is kitty? Do you know why they're having accidents?
Get some nice bedding for them in a safe area (next to something warm) and get them sleeping there - keep your bedroom door shut and make it a no go area.

I wouldn't recommend you to sleep with cats! Specially cause they have a lot of bacteria in their mouth and feces. Mine stay away from the bedrooms unless they're invited in during the day and quickly. Now it's the time to discipline them. The earlier the better.

My cats have always slept in with us even when my son was tiny. She wouldn’t ever sleep near him and often would move when he cried anyway. Is this accidents due to an issue?

If possible get someone else to clean up the cat mess but if it's just you home then wash your hands well afterwards. If your cat goes outside and hunts then there is a much higher risk of toxoplasmosis so you might also want to use some PPE like gloves and an apron.

I just wash my hands when I clean up after my cat but he's a house cat who only goes in the garden under supervision so never hunts. The neighbour's cat poops in our garden though and if my husband isn't home and my daughter is playing in the garden I bag it up very carefully and wash my hands very very well afterwards.

I think you need to start moving the cat out of your room at night as it is advised that the baby sleeps in your room for the first 6 months and they shouldn't be unsupervised with the cat. If you are sleeping you can't watch them together.

We had two cats when my first daughter was born including one very clingy one with health issues triggered by stress (a new piece of furniture could trigger it!). They actually adapted incredibly well to the changes and both were very tolerant of the baby.

The issue is that she is rather old now 😞 I am moving out to our new house in August/ September but currently in a house where she’s only allowed to sleep in my room. I tried a litter box but she misses that anyway, and I’m just worried about being on the room with the smell of the wee all night when I don’t notice! I’m losing sleep over it and I’m so tired x

How long have you had cats? It’s highly likely you have already been exposed to toxoplasmosis. I think you can ask for a test if it would put your mind at ease. It’s my first pregnancy, and I have two cats, but have grown up with cats from childhood. I try and avoid doing the litter, but you can still do that, they just say to wash hands thoroughly.
