Anterior placenta

Hi, I'm currently 23+4. I have felt kicks and movement from around 19 weeks. But just since I turned 23 weeks the kicks seem to have got weaker plus he doesnt seem to move much anymore. I do get the odd kick but that's about it. I dont want to waste anyone's time by going to hospital etc. Just wondering if it was normal to go through this with an anterior placenta?

Thank you

It was for me with an anterior placenta. But that doesn't mean it's normal for you!!!!! Any concerns with movement, please please call triage.

Concerns with my son's movement in early labour meant his distress was picked up and he was safely delivered (I was 40+2 and already having regular contractions).

I'll phone midwife in the morning. Anterior placenta seems to be a real pain. Thank you

Hi OP, I'm 28 weeks with an anterior placenta and barely feel anything. I can go 3 days with nothing at all, then get a day or two with a few bumps, they nothing at all for days again. It's my second pregnancy and I had an anterior placenta in my last pregnancy as well, but didn't have this issue. Up until 25 weeks I was told not to worry about it as it was 'too early'. At 25 week appointment the MW suddenly decided this was a big issue and I got sent for an emergency scan that day (which was fine). Since then I've had 4 more scans after been in for CTG monitoring every 1 to 2 days. I keep being told I must call in to get checked every day I don't feel movements but I feel like I'm being a total nuisance at this point. Plus they don't seem to understand that this isn't so much a change or reduction in movement - more like a complete absence. I'm now booked in for regular CTG monitoring at day assessment and fortnightly scans but it's very stressful so I keep going things will pick up on their own. I suspect I'm numb inside due to the traumatic crash caesarean I had last time, with a lot of internal stitching to stop my bleeding, as all monitoring shows baby to be extremely active - I just can't feel the vast majority of it. Sorry this has gone on a bit but just wanted to let you that your not alone. Xxx

I’m 23+4 and really hate having an anterior placenta. Iv posted about it loads. I can only seem to feel movements if she shifts her position so she can kick to the sides or below the placenta. If she is in the middle I literally feel bugger all. It’s causing me a lot of stress!!! Some days I feel her loads and other days just the odd tap here and there. I keep trying to remind myself she is still really small so has plenty of room at the moment. Got a midwife appointment coming up so I’m going to mention it then as long as I keep feeling her everyday x

Thank you both for your replies, it's so concerning isnt it? I had in my head that I wouldnt feel much (after googling) and then when I got that kick I was so shocked! He tends to kick at the sides, below my belly button and what sometimes feels like down in there if you know what I mean lol. After I posted this I've felt more kicks thankfully. But I will still contact my midwife tomorrow and see what they say. Your never done stressing over every little thing lol. Xx

I'm having the exact same issue! Anterior placenta and I either feel loads or no movement at all, there's literally nothing in between. I've been to get checked out and it was all ok but I asked when I should be worried but they just said I must call every time there's no movement. If I did that I'd literally be there every other day Confused

I think it’s just a bit early. I had the same, then from about 28-30 weeks you can really feel them and monitor the regularity of them. I used to get it in the morning and evening (when I was relaxed so you notice them more rather than when you’re working during the day). Am now 36 weeks and getting kicked all over the place. Try not to worry, it’s very early still and they have lots of room to move about.

I was the same, when I first felt him the kicks came few and far between depending what position he was in.
I went to the MAU afew times.
But as per pp please don’t hesitate to go and get checked it’s really important even if you think it’s because of the placenta.

Exactly the same going on with me! Anterior placenta- high.
I am 22 weeks 1 day today!

But Friday/Saturday I hardly felt him at all. When I had been previously! Loads.

My midwife told me not to get too wrapped up in movement until I'm around 24/25 weeks. And with anterior placenta baby may just be kicking the placenta!

I get really low kicks. Above pubic bone. Feels like she's kicking my noon lol xx

Poppyyoung18 · 19/04/2021 18:33

I completely get the kicking in the moon haha! It's so weird isnt it? Hes been kicking loads today which I'm so happy about. He hasnt stopped since I got up lol. I'll be 24 weeks on wednesday and have my 25 week antenatal next tuesday so I'll definitely be mentioning everything to the midwife. Good luck with your pregnancy xx
