Tips for buying second hand

Hi, I'm pregnant with my first baby and starting to think about what we need to buy. I'm hoping to pick up some items second hand and looking for some advice. Is there anything I should avoid buying second hand (I know its not advised to buy used mattresses and car seats, but is there anything else I should really buy new?) What sort of questions should I ask the seller, especially if its a more expensive item like a pram? What percentage of the original price would you expect to pay for something in 'very good' condition, and does that depend on what the item is? Is it expected that buyers will make offers below the asking price or is that cheeky?
The only things I've bought second before are some clothes for myself from Vinted/Depop but for baby items I'd rather use something like Facebook market place to find things locally i can see in person.
Any other advice? Thanks

If you buy a cot/carrycot/moses/cosleeper etc always buy a new mattress for it as you don't know what nasties have been on old one no matter what previous owner says unless it's a very good friend. Do not buy second hand car seat. If it's a breast pump make sure it's a closed system so everything touching milk can be replaced or sterilised.
Everything else just give a good wash and wipe down :)

Agree with @angel0071987 those are pretty much the only new things I would buy.

Second hand is brilliant for virtually everything. I did buy a new double pram because it was in the sale and actually cheaper than second hand! Facebook marketplace is amazing. You can get a feel for the prices there.

If you're on FB Marketplace check out the sellers profile if it's open.
I've found if they have a large family the stuff is usually battered and shit. If they seem to only have 1 dc then the stuff is usually in better nick.
The Huns are good to buy from as it's usually really expensive stuff they've bought.
Don't be afraid to walk away if you get to the door and the stuff is scruffy or not as described.

Ooh! And don't forget to try your local freecycle for items like nappy buckets or baby baths! I got a lot free with my first nearly 12 years ago!

@Babysharkdododont Good tips thanks! Maybe a daft question but who or what are 'the huns'?

@MamaMoonbeam I'd forgotten about free cycle, thanks.
I'm going to try to keep everything I buy in as good condition as possible so I can pass them on after I'm done.
