Breastfeeding prep - do I need to buy bibs?

This is the world's most boring question I know - but if I plan to breastfeed do I need to purchases bibs? I've bought two but this seems woefully inadequate if they're actually needed at most feeds...

Muslins will serve the same purpose and are more versatile, generally softer. Obviously up to you OP but I didn't use bibs til weaning and we FF.

Not in my experience, no. You might occasionally use a muslin to wipe their mouth/face with after breastfeeding but I didn’t bother with bibs until my two were guzzling milk (expressed and formula) from a bottle or moving onto solids.

As pp said I didnt use bins untill weaning and dribble bibs when he started teething ( ie. Loads of dribbling)

Muslins are handy to have lying around any part of the house you may be feeding or just around in general in case you have a baby that spits up alot.

Yup! They can still get wind, although it tends to be less, so a bib is useful as they can bring milk back up with it.

I liked muslins as they are more versatile, pop under the chin as you wind the baby, or drape over your shoulder as you wind them upright.

Thanks everyone. Ok might get two more just in case expressing or formula feeding becomes a necessity, otherwise hopefully just the stash of muslins does the job.

I needed some for breastfeeding in the early weeks as my baby had reflux. Muslins were also very useful. She used the bibs again when she got dribbly due to teething. They were soft bandana style ones from Funky Giraffe. We used bigger plastic-backed ones for meal times when she started solids.

One of my bf babies needed bibs for tongue tie related spitting up and vomits, the other bf baby needed them because he drooled so much. Handy to have just a few, you can always get more later, it's not urgent.

Neither of mine did, had a drawer full of ones given to us and they weren’t touched until weaning. No dribbling when teething either.

I thought I wouldn't need many and then my let down was so powerful that the babies got covered without them! Didn't take too long to settle down though.

I was a bit alternative.....
I managed to get hold of a stack of bar towels (!) and they were great - a sensible size and shape, plus very absorbent.
But, yes, to answer your question, you will need some form of bib or cloth.

11 week old baby here - 80% breastfed with some formula too. Never needed a bib yet.

DS1 was a sicky baby - so we had both muslins and bibs; don't think we could've managed with just muslins tbh.
