This has just been announced by the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. What will you do?

@MotherWol the guidance only changed just over a week ago and the GPs don’t seem to have caught up. If you go on gp online there’s an article with a link to a letter to all GPs dated last Monday telling them exactly what they have to do in order to facilitate the choice for pregnant ladies to have Pfizer or Moderna.

MotherWol · 26/04/2021 22:07

@MF1981 thanks for that, I just read the article on GP online and at least I’ll know what to ask for at the clinic. My GP practice has been in special measures for a while and seems to rely on locums so while they’re nice enough, they aren’t always clued up on specific issues and it can be a bit worrying.

SugarCoatIt · 27/04/2021 07:05

I won't, theres just not enough information and evidence available to satisfy me on a personal level so I will wait until baby is here.

8dpwoah · 27/04/2021 07:35

With the deepest of respect to the poor lady, @Carolsong that would have been a high risk pregnancy at the best of times. Although maybe reinforces the idea that having the jab in second trimester might be optimum as she would have been 37 ish weeks when she received it.

My maternity voices group say they have no info about the trust's plans and have referred me to speak to GP as they are coordinating. So I'll just wait til my are group is called I think and then have the conversation, I'm in the next bunch I think. Although saying that my partner is in the same bracket with no underlying conditions and has been done so maybe they are starting to get to us. Yet another thing for the GPs to have to pick up.

Peony2021 · 27/04/2021 08:58

I'm 15 weeks pregnant I had my first dose Pfizer at 13 weeks which RCOG suggested women might want to do to get the first trimester over them. It means I'll have my second dose at 23 weeks in plenty of time to protect me and baby for 3rd trimester. I felt great post vaccine, no side effects and extremely relieved. I wouldn't have taken the AZ had it been offered because of the new advice. For me, the risk in getting COVID far outweighed the risk of a vaccine which I was very comfortable with having spoken to healthcare professionals.

MF1981 · 27/04/2021 09:05

@Peony2021 yay! And I completely agree. I had a sore arm after my Pfizer on the weekend but that was it.

8dpwoah · 29/04/2021 19:13

I had a call from my GP nurse practitioner today after my apologetic email... They were a breath of fresh air, their policy is to call people in age brackets but prioritise within the brackets too and call the more needy first so I will be near the top when it's my turn. The only thing he did say was that they have no control over which vaccine they will have on a given day, which we knew, so we will have to be flexible and maybe attend at short notice but they understand that. So pretty positive!

MotherWol · 29/04/2021 21:53

Update: went along to the vaccination centre and they had Pfizer as well as the AZ so I’ve had my first dose. Aside from a sore arm I’ve not experienced any side effects yet, and the soreness is significantly less bad than the whooping cough jab.

MintGreenLife · 12/05/2021 21:17

I've just read through this entire thread as I'm booked in for my first dose of Pfizer on Saturday and I am completely on the fence and agonising over the decision to be honest. I spotted a few posters said something about not wanting to have their first or second jabs in the third trimester - is there a reason for this? Or is it just because of wanting to be protected by the third trimester? I'm 28+3 x

Peaplant20 · 12/05/2021 23:38

@MintGreenLife yes there’s no other reason not to have it in the third trimester x

This is how I feel as well. They can say it’s safe but I don’t see how their can be enough data available yet on how it could affect the unborn baby
xTinkerbell · 29/05/2021 22:08

I’m only 10 weeks at the moment but in Scotland they’re asking my age group to register. Ive been agonising all week but after reading the faq’s on the rcog website I just feel there isn’t enough information to convince me. Midwife basically said they weren’t given any information and she couldn’t help me so I think I’ll wait till baby is here.

kezza1987 · 29/05/2021 22:10

yes i am pregnant and i had my first one 2 weeks ago and been completely fine

Italiandreams · 30/05/2021 19:22

Had mine now, definitely weighing up the risks of known issues of Covid in third trimester and me being over 35 I felt it was the right choice for me, especially with husband and toddler at work and nursery. Completely understand everyone will come to different conclusions and have different situations.

Trinacham · 30/05/2021 19:31

I'm very newly pregnant (got my BFP the same week as I was called for the jab) and undecided. I am not going to rush into it. If I do get it it will probably be when I'm in the 2nd trimester. It is very hard to know what to do. I only mix with colleagues at work - no patients or customers - so my risk is lower than others. I will continue to be very careful and do all of my shopping online as I do currently.

Phoebe2203 · 01/06/2021 15:11

I still think I won’t take it until after birth.

First, there’s no research about the long term effect on the baby’s health.

Second, we are even not sure about the short term effect either. Think about AZ, all scientists/doctors thought it was safe and everyone couldn’t wait to get AZ jab. But now, everyone says no to AZ after some deadly cases. The Pfizer tests on US pregnant women are only on something like 100,000 people. About the time AZ tested on 100,000 people, we were also very excited about it... It’s too early to say it is safe.

I think scientists and doctors advising it is safe because it is the best choice for community. The vast amount of people will have benefits, but what if we belong to the minority group with the unknown effects?

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 01/06/2021 15:13

I’m 21 weeks pregnant and 34 years old. I got the first vaccine last week.

Xxcoopxx · 27/07/2021 19:14

I'm looking to find out how pregnant women have felt after receiving the covid vac?

Fine. Had Pfizer at around 18 weeks and 26 weeks. Had a slightly sore arm on both occasions but that was it.
