Bad Vomiting / Morning Sickness help? :/

Hello, first time posting here so sorry if this isn't the correct place to submit this post.

I'm coming on for 10 weeks pregnant, and had morning sickness since week 4. Morning sickness from the get-go has been vomiting and vomiting multiple times a day. (First time pregnancy).

I've tried a bunch of stuff that's meant to curb the sickness (eg. ginger, mint, sour sweets, broth) but nothing seems to work. The only thing that reduced the vomiting / could push it off a couple hours was drinking flat Coke and Lucozade. I'm not a regular drinker of fizzy pop, I drink water usually but I kept throwing up water... But now, the flat Coke and Lucozade is no longer working and whenever I drink it I just bring it up within a short amount of time.

I only am eating dry foods like crackers / toast / baked potatoes because that's the only thing I can stomach, but even then there's no guarantee it'll stay down. It seems that my body gets "tired" of particular foods after a while so rejects them, for example I was eating digestive biscuits, very mild cheese, soups, etc., but after a couple weeks I couldn't keep them down at all so stopped eating them. I'm quite anxious about what to do when my body decides it doesn't want crackers or toast or potato anymore, then I'm not sure what foods to move to. Confused

Any help or anything like that would be great. I know it often for women goes away by the 12th / 13th week, but that's only like 60% of the time or something. I really need something because I can't even do light exercise at the minute without needing to vomit.

Contact your GP you may need some medication.

Get in touch with your GP. I struggled through a few weeks thinking that all the vomiting I had was just normal. After some great MN advice, I went to the GP and was diagnosed with HG and ended up in hospital twice because I was very dehydrated. Similar to you I couldn't keep fluid or food down. I'm still on meds at 20 weeks and I'm still sick every day even with the meds but I can function as a person now!
I kept being told wait for 12 weeks, then it was at 14 weeks you'll definitely be better. As soon as you reach that milestone they move the goal post and the truth is some people are sick throughout. This was by some well meaning people but if one more person asked me if I'd tried ginger biscuits I think I'd have cried and lost it!
I'm not saying you do have HG, but as a FT mum I was at a loss as to what was normal/ acceptable and people kind of just tell you to get on it with when they wouldn't do so themselves!
Hopefully, yours will pass but even if it doesn't you don't have to suffer the way you are at the moment.
Congratulations on your pregnancy and I really hope you find some relief some. Pregnancy sickness can be really horrible and I think that many people don't understand just how grim it can be!

Just echoing what @catgamerlady said - please please speak to your GP. And have a look at Pregnancy Sickness Support’s website, they have tons of helpful info on HG and have helped me a lot. I’ve become evangelical about them Smile

Call your GP there are medications that can help. It sounds like your sickness is much worse than what is usual.

Chelyanne · 16/04/2021 11:33

Go to your GP, there are meds they can prescribe to help you.

I had hg.

Get meds and reflux meds. If your meds don't work, ask for stronger stuff.

To stay as hydrated as possible, suck ice cubes. It shortly numbs the mouth and gives you some water.

Another vote for your GP, if you're becoming so sick you're dehydrated, you may need medication.
They have a number of options they can prescribe for you which should help you keep fluids down at least which is the most important thing. Try the hyperemsis support thread on here, I found it a very supportive and comforting thread when I was at my worst with HG.
It is awful and I really sympathise. Good luck xx

Definitely go get some medication. There is no promises this will end at 12 weeks so could go on for a lot longer, don't suffer if you don't have to. It really can be miserable at the start.

DennisTMenace · 16/04/2021 12:46

Call GP and get a prescription. There are a few they can prescribe, so if the first one doesn't work, ask for something different. The first (male) doctor I saw was hesitant to give anything and the second (female) doctor gave it all a go and offered to sign me off work too. I didn't want that, just to be able to function. 1st pregnancy I stopped being sick about half way and the 2nd pregnancy I was sick the whole time, so it doesn't necessarily stop at 12 weeks. Drugs were amazing though!
