Just wanted a bit of reassurance I suppose! I just found out I'm pregnant with my third and I'm 42. My other children are 4 and 6. I am in a slight panic about my age and the implications of it with possible issues, and wondered if anyone here has positive experience of being pregnant at my age?! Thanks so much.

Hello I had twins when I was 42 , no morning sickness, no high blood pressure, developed gestational diabetes at week 28 but it was fine , was induced (not great ) ended with a c section , no bother with the babies , healthy as could be at 2kg each and I was over the moon , the best thing I ever did was have my beauties at 42 , they are my world.
It will be fine
Congratulations 🎉

Currently 32 weeks with DC3 and 42 too. My other children are 9 and 7 so a slightly larger gap than yours.

This pregnancy has been very straight forwards so far and all seems well, although I have some extra growth scans booked in as I’m over 40. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how well I’ve felt - was also worried about being older this time around.

I did have harmony testing this time for peace of mind.

Congratulations and the best of luck. How far along are you?

Jamscone1 · 15/04/2021 22:57

Oh thanks so much. I've only just found out so I've a long way to go but its reassuring to hear about your positive experiences! Thanks so much. My husband and I are in a panic as it wasn't exactly planned 😬 What is the harmony test? Is that at 12 weeks?

I had dd1 at 41 and dd2 at 44. Pregnancies were straightforward, I had extra scans because of my age and had to take aspirin but no issues at all. I opted not to have the harmony test.
They are an absolute joy.

someoneiou · 15/04/2021 23:10

Not personally, but have many many friends who've had babies in early-mid 40s (oldest I know was 47). Apart from extra scans and monitoring, all babies born perfectly healthy.

Congratulations OP!

Carikube · 15/04/2021 23:35

I had DC3 at 42 when my other two were 6 and 5. I was a bit disgruntled at being classed as high risk because of my age but the pregnancy was OK. DC3 was definitely the easiest of my deliveries - gave birth at 5.30am and was home having a roast dinner that evening.

Em39ma · 16/04/2021 06:09

I’m 42 and expecting my second. Very early and little scared at the moment as had 2 miscarriages, on of which might of been eptopic, but passed myself after a lot of pain.

Em39ma · 16/04/2021 06:12

Meant to say I had my first at 40. Had extra scans, as had too much water. It was a hereditary risk, as both my mother and grandmother had it too and they had there children in there twenties.

SamoyedFan123 · 16/04/2021 06:40

I had my beautiful twins at 41, and I'm currently 27 weeks with number 3 at the age of 43. My age has never even been mentioned by a single HCP. The last couple of years have been the best of my life - good luck OP xxx

Mintjulia · 16/04/2021 06:46

Congratulations.

I had ds1 at 45. No problems during pregnancy at all. The only irritant was the midwife who kept starting sentences with 'Given your age......'
I had a couple of extra scans and the labour was a bit slow, but otherwise, all fine.

pookypup · 16/04/2021 07:58

@Jamscone1 harmony is a blood test for you which looks for fetal DNA and gives a very accurate yes/no prediction of chromosomal abnormalities. It is private and expensive at £400 to £500, but something we chose to do as it can happen before the NHS combined screening and gives more of a definitive answer than having to wait until after amniocentesis etc. You can also find out the babies sex at the same time, although we chose not to.

I forgot, as with other posters, I have to take aspirin this time too, which as advised by my midwife. Otherwise this pregnancy has been easier than my other 2!

Starlight39 · 16/04/2021 08:16

I’ve recently had my second at 42. All absolutely fine with no issues 👍. I was induced at 41 weeks rather than 42 due to age. 2.5 months in, I feel great and she’s a much better sleeper than my first who I had at 32 so I feel much less tired this time around! Good luck and congratulations!

BurningBenches · 16/04/2021 08:32

I had dc4 at 40 and am now 32wks with DC5 at 41 (will be a few weeks off 42 when she is due) others are 20, 11, 10 and 20m.

The only differences in my care with this pregnancy is they would like to induce at 41wks.

And I need blood thinners due to my bmi, age and parity (needed these with dc4 too)

Good luck

feistymumma · 16/04/2021 08:34

Congratulations!! Nothing to worry about OP, am pregnant with baby number 4 at 45 with massive gaps. Eldest is 23 this year, then 16 and 12. We are madly thinking of trying again so that the baby has a sibling close in age.

@Jamscone1 I'm so so sorry. Do take good care. X

gizmo167 · 22/04/2021 14:47

I'm 43 and only found out I'm pregnant! Had 2 mc's in the last year and absolutely terrified this one will not stick!

Em39ma · 22/04/2021 15:40

@gizmo167 I know the feeling. This is my 4th pregnancy in 2.5 years.
My first miscarriage was October 18, then had my daughter in October 19 and another miscarriage last July at 10 weeks.
I just get the feeling it’s not going to turn out well, I’m hoping with everything it does.

Hi it took me 6 months to conceive this baby after my last miscarriage
I was technically 40 when I conceived as I found out on my 41st birthday

22 weeks now

teachermam · 29/06/2021 08:25

And altogether it took me 2 years of trying this time with 2 misses
It def takes longer when older
My first 2 were conceived at 3rd cycle
