I’ve had ongoing brown spotting after my BFP a few weeks ago following MF IVF where they transferred two embryos. My beta hcgs have been really good, including one from yesterday however today the brown spotting was a bit heavier than usual and there were some stringy clots (sorry for tmi). My first scan at 7 weeks is next Thursday and I couldn’t wait that long as I had a meltdown today so I got a reassurance scan booked.

The scan showed a healthy six week embryo plus heartbeat, however they also saw “around the gestational sac is a possible second gestational sac with yolk sac and no embryo”

Has anyone had experience of this and know what are the usual next steps? I’m panicking I’ll end up miscarrying the healthy embryo and the bleeding/cramping isn’t a nice feeling! Waiting to hear back from my clinic so thought I’d see in the meantime if anyone else has been through similar x

Aww bless you.
I would say at 6 weeks it's quite possible for one twin to be a bit behind the other twin so Personally I would try and be hopeful all is well. With my 2 pregnancies I had spotting fx this one I have had none so far.
Sometimes it's one of those things. Will be thinking of you, but I would say don't give up yet, as with twins one can be a bit slower to develop then catch up. X good luck and fx

I had exactly this- one healthy embryo with heartbeat at 6 weeks and one with no heartbeat and smaller. Had some spotting as well. The healthy embryo is now a nocturnal teenager, the other one didn’t develop but had no implications on the rest of thecpregnancy - it had just disappeared by later scans. Hope all goes well for you too.

Thank you both for your lovely words

@Seoirnbru did you have fairly constant spotting and clots? I guess I’m just terrified my body will try to abort the blighted ovum and take the healthy one with it 😖 such an anxious time!

I can’t remember exactly, but I do remember the clinic being really reassuring about it and saying it was common and the non viable one would just be reabsorbed. I think it was still visible at the 8 week scan but not by the 12 week one. Hope all looks good at the next scan, fingers crossed for you.

I had this bit with 3 sacs, 2 with a fetal pole and yolk sac and one empty. Unfortunately only one of the sacs with the pole and sac progressed abs the other two sacs were just re absorbed into my womb, by 12 week scan they were completely gone. I'm now 26+1 and baby is fine

The only reason I had found out is. Elapse I had got scanned at 6 weeks with some light brown spotting. Apparently ita a very common thing called "disappearing twin symdrome" but a lot of woman wouldn't know because by 12 weeks it's gone
