Worst headache ever- HELP!

I’m 8 weeks pregnant and have had the worst headache ever today. I’ve drunken lots of water which usually helps but not today. I’ve just been curled up in a ball in the dark as much as I can all day- which is hard with a toddler to look after.

Any tips to help would be very much appreciated ladies Smile

No tips but I think you are having a girl.

Hope they ease soon for you.

Thank you @ColourfulElmerElephant
Why do you think that?

I didn’t have any headaches with DD until later on in the pregnancy. Definitely never so early!

I suffered a lot with migraines with my 2nd pregnancy. I will likely be hormone related. You may wanna get your blood pressure checked though. It's too early for pre/eclampsia I think but definitely worth mentioning to the GP. Xx

I get migraines and headaches and the advice was rest, paracetamol, water and I got my bp checked. Hope you are feeling better @WantingAnother

I’m 10 weeks and have really suffered this weeks with headaches, I ended up taking Monday off work which is not like me as I just couldn’t get my head of the pillow. I’ve heard it’s hormone related and the sudden surge :(

I had really bad headaches around 8/9 weeks. I know you can have paracetamol but my headaches were so bad I knew it wouldn’t touch the sides and I didn’t massively want to take anything. I ordered a wrap around face-pack thing that off Amazon which you can put in the fridge or freezer, it helped. Also tiger balm and being in a quiet dark space till it eased off.

Thank you all for your replies! Hormone related makes sense, I was expecting the headaches later in pregnancy but having them now has completely floored me.

That’s good advice re blood pressure, I’ll get that checked out.

I do find a quiet dark place really does help, it’s just difficult to do that and supervise DD who won’t leave me alone haha

I’ll keep drinking lots of water and trying to rest. Had been trying not to take Paracetamol if not necessary but I guess I’ll try anything at this point.

I’m lucky the DH is so supportive, he came home and took DD, made dinner and did the dishwasher. Don’t know what I’d do without him!

Thank you again!

Paracetamol, fluid intake and rest.

Its likely due to the pregnancy hormones and some ladies get them more often or they become more frequent in to the second trimester.

Pre eclampsia and blood clots (CVST) are serious causes in pregnant ladies but you don't typically get these early in pregnancy. If concerns continue despite painkillers I would advise speaking to a health care practitioner- though I would say although a dangerous cause is unlikely, the chance is not zero.

peachgreen · 17/04/2021 11:14

Full fat coke (which I hate) and paracetamol was the only thing that worked for me

Just to update I’ve been drinking a lot more water then usual these last few weeks- 3 litres instead of 2 and my headaches have almost gone! It’s only in the morning after a night of of drinking I have to quickly hydrate or else I feel one coming on. But yes hydration has really helped me a lot! I hope this can help someone else in future Smile

I used to have those Migralief cold pad things.... you stick them to your forehead.... they were really soothing.... not sure they cured the headache but were so nice that the headache faded into the background.

Speedymarie · 14/05/2021 20:57

I had hideous headaches with my first (a girl), every time I was sick my head used to pound like it was going to explode. The Dr just shrugged and said Apr for the course. The did ease after the first trimester. Good idea to keep an eye on the blood pressure.

Cocoaone · 14/05/2021 22:32

Are you taking a pregnancy multivitamin? I found that the iron in mine gave me horrendous headaches when I was in the first trimester. Switched to one without iron and they stopped. No idea on the science behind it, or if it was just coincidence...
