Reduced/changed movements - help please!

Hi everyone - first time posting here after being a long time reader of threads! I'm just hoping for a little bit of clarity as to the situation I'm currently in as I don't know if I genuinely might have something to worry about or if I'm worrying over nothing!

Currently I'm 26+2 with my first baby (little girl, due 20th July - so excited!) and in terms of movements, I've been feeling her move from about 19 weeks or so in pretty solid patterns at night time around 10pm - definitely the time of night she likes to party Grin - and also if I've been sat/lying down resting for a while. Yesterday, I noticed she was a lot less active than normal and barely moved at all last night, nor this morning when I woke up and lay in bed for a little while; however, I went for a bath and then came to sit on the sofa and really concentrated on movements/tried to relax and she began kicking and rolling around; so I'm wondering if I need to be concerned/call my midwife or anything, given I have felt her move and its not as though the movements have stopped completely?

Thank you so much in advance (and sorry for the ramble!) xxx

Call the midwife/hospital maternity (PAU) department (number will be in your notes) now. It may be nothing or it may be something but you won’t know until you are checked. Midwives will always want to see you if there’s a change in the pattern not just reduced movements, so will tell you to go in to check heartbeat etc. if they are concerned when you speak to them. They’re best placed to assess rather than anyone on here. Hope all’s ok.

You must call the Triage line at your hospital if you are at all worried about your baby. I have called the Triage line 3 times in this pregnancy with regards to baby's movements and every time I've been checked over and the midwives have always said that I did the right thing by going on. Call Triage straight away!

LittleMissNaice · 15/04/2021 14:58

Yes, call. It's most likely just baby having a lazy day, but far better to be safe.

Aria2015 · 15/04/2021 15:01

Call your midwife to be safe but just to reassure you, I had very similar happen at around that time and went in to be checked. All was fine and the doctor explained that the baby was still very small and that the baby just moving into a different position (facing inwards for example) could cause a drastic change in the amount of movement that I felt. It's always best to get checked though.

Thanks everyone! I'll give them a ring and see what they advise. Hopefully everything's fine! Fingers crossed xx

If you have any concerns then always call your midwife.

saffire · 15/04/2021 15:04

Posted too soon!
It's never an inconvenience to them, and at best they will be able to reassure and explain stuff to you.

beccaboo96 · 15/04/2021 15:04

@Aria2015 ah okay! This is super helpful as I only really know people who have had babies in the past year or so or are quite a few weeks behind me so haven't really had this solid advice from anyone so far! Thank you for the reassurance xx

I forgot to ask do you know if your placenta is at the back or front? If it's at the front sometimes this can stop you feeling baby so well but like I said in my earlier message call Triage. I hope bubba is OK x

I always phone. I’m 32 weeks now, I first went in at 24 weeks and think I’ve been seen about 4 times now for reduced movements! It turns out they’re not really reduced as such, my wee one is always super active on the monitors but I just struggle to feel her a lot of the time. My placenta is at the front which I think plays a part. But always best to get checked over if you’re concerned at all. The midwives always tell me they’d rather see me and put my mind at ease than have me sitting at home worrying and stressing myself out.

beccaboo96 · 15/04/2021 19:05

@swiftt @HappyMummy82 thank you for your advice/concern! Smile Star At my scans I got told everything looked fine and nobody has ever mentioned that I've got an anterior placenta or anything, so I've took that as it's in the 'usual' position, whichever that may be! I spoke to a midwife on the phone and after she'd looked up my records on her computer and we'd had a chat she told me to monitor movements for a few hours, however if its still worrying me into this evening then I can call back and they'll get me in to have a listen Smile so I feel much more reassured already knowing she doesn't think it's overly cause for concern! Thank you all so much for your support, it just took me a bit of courage to phone up as I just was worried about wasting their time! xx

You're never wasting their time. They would rather see 100 women who's baby start moving as soon as they are scanned than miss one.

I'm sure everything will be ok but never take a chance. They will always be glad to see you.

User0ne · 15/04/2021 19:39

Have you tried eating a big bowl of ice-cream or drinking a very cold pint of iced water? (often will trigger them into a decent amount of movement within 30mins)

If you're still concerned after then probably worth a ring.

I've just had dc3 and all of mine have had quiet days (sometimes 48 hours) right up until birth. Cold food/drink has always triggered them into action.
