Please talk to me about your COMFY maternity staples..
I am a size 16 probably looking at 18 now in all honesty.. will be heavily pregnant in the summer.. thinking clothes along nice big dress/tents, soft trousers..
Am I too big to sport dungarees? I like the idea..
also.. is there anywhere on the high street you can buy good quality maternity bras..

TIA !

Popsy dresses and Molke bras for me!

Deftly · 15/04/2021 13:24

I was also heavily pregnant during the summer and just lived in flowy dresses and cotton leggings. It was a few years ago though and it was difficult to source any summer maternity wear/bras then, it's probably even worse now mothercare's gone and most shops have moved their pregnancy ranges online. I've always been a bit cautious about buying mat wear online, different brands can vary hugely in size but I guess there's not much else you can do.

Also, invest in a good pair of flip flops with proper soles. My feet were so swollen in the hot weather that I couldn't even get proper shoes on.

You can't get much maternity wear wise in store in general but I think bras are the exception to this.
I'm not a dress person so will be sticking with leggings (may buy some cropped ones) mostly and stretchy tops with a variety of sleeve length. Can with maternity jeans but do miss pockets and glad it's still hoodie wearing weather atm. I grow big babies so get good sized bumps and have gone up a size in leggings to account for this, still a bit romy atm but they also hold up well for squats in the gym. I don't see the point in buying anything too dressy/expensive as this may be our last, though we never say never lol. Atm a lot of my tops are just normal ones a size up but they are getting a bit too short now and roll up sometimes.

I’ve said this on a million threads but Asda - George have the best maternity bras. Comfy and supportive if you’re a big bigger like me in the boob department.

Their whole range of Mat clothes I found lovey and comfortable without breaking the bank (especially their nighties/pjs) for hospital etc.

M&S have the loveliest soft leg cotton joggers (that aren’t joggers at all) that I have seen and thought to myself I’d live in them if I were ever pregnant again.

Thanks for all your replies. I agree there is very little on the high street.. I recall peacocks and H&M having a small section and that was it.. really struggling now mothercare has gone.. dubious about ordering online especially when having to pay p&p..
I think sandals and a plastic bowl for cold water will likely be a must this time around!

I've found maternity bras difficult to find in all honesty, I am tempted by Molke though!

I live in wrap style dresses, I managed to bag a couple of bamboo ones in the Seasalt sale and they are worn often!
I also live in Love Leggings as their maternity fit is generous and Birkenstock sandals for my wide feet.

I would also recommend Lucy and Yak dungarees, they have started stocking larger sizes so although they are too big for pre partum, I wear big vibrant dungarees in a size 20 (previously 16/18) and have plenty of room for my melon belly and swollen legs. Grin

Hi op I'm the same size as you. My staples would be a pair of dark under bump jeans and also a black pair (jeggings), some black leggings, nice sandals, floaty summer dresses, plain expandable tops and comfy bras

Peachee · 17/04/2021 17:31

Thankyou so much for your replies @lamptastic @HPmagic I’m so glad to hear from ladies of similar sizes.. I’ve just ordered an airy shirt dress and a floaty dress from asos.. will see how they hold up this spring and then thinking of looking for strapped dresses for the summer.. I was thinking of getting some Birkenstock’s.. feel like they will be great.. supportive trendy and comfy.. will have a look at those websites lamp.. sounds great! And I think I will need to stock on the comfy bras.. have seen a few people advertising wireless bras on YouTube.. may give them a whirl to start with! Xx

Can you post some links of any good finds Smile

Bunny2021 · 17/04/2021 20:01

I’ve bought very little actual maternity stuff but I’ve bought some floaty summer dresses from New Look/Zara/H&M. They’re not maternity just a size up but designed that I can unbutton etc for breastfeeding post birth.

Peachee · 17/04/2021 20:31

Yes good idea for posting links for an good finds!
Have just ordered this from ASOS.. thought it will be good for now.. big bump and afterwards as it looks smocky.. thought it would be good for all seasons too..
Only worry I have is that one of the comments says it can be a bit see through.. it hasn’t arrived yet so I can’t give my verdict..

Treat yourself to Seraphine maternity pyjamas, you won't regret it! Soooo comfy!! They come up very big, I'm a 14 and wear medium. I had a few of their dresses too, mostly bought in the sales.

MoscowMuse · 17/04/2021 21:09

I am the same size as you and also 5'9 so struggling to find anything!

Ive bought 6 pairs of over the bump leggings from M&S, a couple of tunics from seasalt, some basic t shirts from h&m / new look, a couple of 'nicer' top/ tunic ste from Seraphine, one summer dress from H&M and another from Seraphine. Hoping thats enough to see me through Confused

FirstTimeMumma2021 · 17/04/2021 23:08

I've bought quite a bit from boohoo and missguided as most shops have been shut with lockdown. I'm a 16 as well and have a pair of denim dungarees which are amazing along with a stretchy jumpsuit from boohoo which is soooo comfy!
I picked up non wired bras from Asda which have been really comfortable and some nursing bras from TU Sainsbury's ☺️

Peachee · 18/04/2021 07:27

Thankyou for the ideas @georgarina

@starsinyourpies I love everything on seraphine.. I think I may buy a couple of bits in the summer but will save it for a special occasion.. brilliant about the pjs.. I’ve got a couple of pairs from Asda and have bought giant pants from M&S! Will treat myself to the ones you have posted in the summer they look so soft and love the short sleeves!

@MoscowMuse yes me too.. this will be my last baby too so don’t want to overdo it but with the lockdown easing I want to do some nice things and want to look nice in the process haha! Difficult to weigh up!!

Love boohoo and misguided. Such good value for money aswell! Was toying with the idea of dungarees! I thought they would be really useful in this weather! Can you post a link @FirstTimeMumma2021 If you find anything else you love on there will you post a link
