Too late to change midwife?

I’m thinking it probably is, but I thought it was worth asking what people thought!

In my area we get allotted a midwife that we see throughout the pregnancy for all our antenatal appointments and who, assuming she isn’t tied up at the time, accompanies us to hospital when labour begins or a c section or induction is scheduled.

I’ve never taken to mine - she’s not done anything egregious, but she’s made a few errors I found mildly concerning and I have found her to be, on the whole, a bit dismissive and sometimes a bit rude. Certainly quite in reassuring in general.

Had to see another midwife today because mine was away, and she was lovely - attentive, warm, practical, immediately picked up on things that other midwife has never asked about, etc.

I don’t know enough about how it all works to know whether there is any realistic prospect of being able to “swap” over to her list. If I were eg 4 months gone I’d probably chance my arm at asking to be swapped over onto her list, but in due in a fortnight. I know it would probably be a bit silly to request a swap this late in the game (and I take full responsibility for not having asked about it earlier, I just didn’t want to end up doing it “blind” and ending up with someone worse!), but I felt so much more at ease with the lady I saw today and in honesty feel a bit antsy at the idea of a labour in the presence of original midwife. Am I being daft?

*Certainly NOT reassuring in general, rather!

I would request it for sure. The worst they can say is 'no'.

If you don't feel right with your OG midwife then I would have thought you can tell the hospital you would rather switch her for the delivery. Mine didn't see me past 38 weeks. Had 2 new midwives for my c-section so it wasn't like it was spontaneous in the middle of the night labour.

Absolutely request it. It's important you trust the professionals who are looking after you as otherwise it will just cause you anxiety.
