High heart rate

Hi was wondering if I am get any advice from anybody.
I had over the weekend really bad heart palpitations, they have since calmed I will feel them every now and again. However my heart rate is constantly between 95 and 120bpm when I’m resting doing absolutely nothing. The lowest will be about 90bpm which isn’t often, it will rise to around 120 then back down to about 95-100.
I visited the doctors today, he was initially concerned as he has seen my heart rate was 122. He then put me on an ecg for about 3 minutes, then said it’s fine my heart rates come down so he’s now not concerned.

I’m slightly worried as he’s saying it’s okay that it’s come down, but what about the majority of time that’s it over 100 which I’ve read can be dangerous?

He’s sending me for blood tests but that’s not for another 2 weeks.
Another comment I reciebed from him was “we won’t listen to the foetus as there’s no point it’s only 16 weeks, and if you were 20weeks we would send you to the hospital.” I’ve now come home worried as hell more than anything that if my baby is okay.
At what point do I ring 111 or ring back to the doctors? Panicking here (not helping the racing heart rate Hmm)

Ring your maternity assessment unit at the hospital. They’ll more than likely ask you to go in to be checked.
Very surprised he didn’t listen to the heartbeat.

I would ring your maternity assessment unit or midwife. Pregnant women do get higher heart rates (mine is between 90bpm-110bpm resting) but I think you should definitely get it checked out. I got mine checked out at 25 weeks as I was breathless as well and all was fine but it is worth checking out nonetheless. Good luck x

Thank you! I’m breathless too, I only have to get up to nip to the toilet and I’m panting and have to sit to rest. Taxiing to and from work because I’m just too out of breath to walk! Hopefully it’s just a normal pregnancy thing for me too Smile thank you for the advice! Xx

Are you anxious about anything? I had bad palpitations for the first 5 months of my last pregnancy, I had numerous tests and a 24 hr heart monitor and eventually it passed, it was a shock to get pregnant naturally after 9 rounds of ivf

Lizzy1998 · 13/04/2021 19:18

@MissSmiley I did wonder this - been a lot of change this week with having to go back into the office after working from home. I’m still worried though, to be told I could have a thyroid problem but not have a blood test for 2 weeks isn’t helping my situation. And also just wanting to know the baby’s okay which he didn’t bother to reassure me about is worrying! Xx

If you are feeling breathless you should definitely get checked out at your maternity assessment unit. It is most likely nothing and just one of those pregnancy things but best to get it looked into! The maternity assessment unit at my hospital accept walk ins (you need to call in advance to tell them you are coming and what the issue is) so yours might do to. I was seen same day!

MissSmiley · 13/04/2021 19:25

@Lizzy1998 I don't remember feeling breathless, that definitely needs checking out, I hope you feel better soon

Lizzy1998 · 13/04/2021 19:42

Thank you for all the advice guys, I’ll defiantly go and get checked again! i worry going as I don’t like the fuss and don’t want to be a time waster - but I think at this point it’s best for me and baby and will be good to have my mind out at ease!

Deffo not a time waster when it comes to pregnancy. They’ll tell you that so don’t worry.
You can never been to careful!
I’m sure you’ll be fine but good luck! Xxx

I wrote this hours ago- but just came back to the app & seen it is not posted - sorry if it is now out of date -

If you are also breathless you need to be checked tonight in case it is something else - no need to overthink with what it could be & I am not trying to be a scaremonger as it really could be nothing/something- but they need to rule out blood clot/PE & various other issues which can come on during pregnancy linked to heart. Also simple chest infections or similar could mean heart rate is up.

I predict the ECG was seen as fine as you were still, but if your heart-rate is still up, it can make an impact on the babies so it all just needs looking at for simple & complex causes.

My heart-rate was similar during pregnancy any movement and it was up - had varies scans/blood thinners in case etc etc etc - but in Labour it was sky high because they had not really got to the cause - which caused some problems.

Good luck - DM me if I can be any help -

Thank you for all the help!
I’ve just called maternity unit and they couldn’t get me through to a nurse so have advised me to go urgent care and if it’s pregnancy related they will then transfer me to the maternity unit.
Is this normal? I feel bad going to urgent care since my heart rate is now fine but I just seem to have shortness of breath from talking, doing the smallest of things?

Has your blood pressure been low? Its common in pregnancy and your heart rate can raise to try and compensate for the low bp. Best to get it checked out but I'd definitely ask about a low bp.

LunaL0veg00d · 14/04/2021 13:31

I had this during my first pregnancy. My resting heart rate was always 100-115bpm! I'd feel exhausted and my heart would race just climbing the stairs. I had an ecg which was fine and was then put on a 24 hour heart monitor.
They decided not to take any action or put me on medication (I was in 3rd trimester at this point) after getting the results of the heart monitor.

The birth went fine, I had a vaginal delivery. My heart rate was 170bpm after the birth but basically as soon as DD was out, my resting heart rate went back down to 70bpm.
