Pregnancy after miscarriage

Last year I had 3 miscarriages and today I found out I'm pregnant. I'm so excited and trying my best not to let things bother me but I'm 6 hours in and all can think about is 'what's that pain' and examining the loo roll for any tiny spot! Does anyone have any helpful tips or anything they have done to calm down and enjoy?

I've had 3 miscarriages this year and I'm currently 4 weeks pregnant. I don't actually have much advice on how not to panic as I think that's inevitable for us!
Have you been referred for support? I've been out on 400mg progesterone a day and have had blood tests etc. Already got a scan booked for when I'm 7 weeks which I'm panicking about already 😅

Chelyanne · 13/04/2021 15:45

No tips really.
Our current one follows 2 miscarriages at 8 & 9 weeks and a few chemicals. I'm 22wk now and still check the loo roll despite feeling her wriggling around lots. It does get easier the further along you get so hang in there. Take it day by day and celebrate each milestone you pass like scans, trimesters etc. Congrats and good luck.

Thank you both and congratulations!!

@worrybug93 no I've not heard anything from the doctors yet. I done the self referral form on Tuesday but last time they didn't get in contact until week 9 which was after my miscarriage. I'd love a scan to try and calm me as the first miscarriage I was told at the scan the baby had died so I'm very nervous about going. Good luck though I'm sure everything will be perfect.

@Chelyanne the loo roll checking is driving me mad 😂 I keep thinking 'right I won't do it this time' and then I do.

@peachesandpippin I get that, I felt like I should be excited for my scan but I'm just terrified. I've not had a scan where it's been good news so I just can't imagine anything other than that as weird as that sounds.
I'd definitely keep pestering the doctors, mine referred me end of jan and I've just had my first appointment with recurrent miscarriage support. It's definitely worth badgering them!

peachesandpippin · 15/04/2021 10:33

@worrybug93 I'm sure this time it will be good news but nothing you say sounds silly it's completely normal and I feel the same. Thank you I will, I didn't even know about miscarriage support. Clearly my authority don't offer it.

@peachesandpippin they absolutely should offer you a referral and support after 3 miscarriages! Where about are you?

peachesandpippin · 15/04/2021 10:51

@worrybug93 I live in Somerset. I had access to support immediately after but that ended. I'm going to speak to a doctor when I can get though.

Today has been a really bad day. All I've done is cry. I felt less sick today so started to panic that I was loosing my symptoms and loosing the baby but considering I wanted to eat the hand sanitiser I think they are still strong. I'm driving myself mad with the loo roll thing and thinking every bit of wind (which this time round there's a lot of) is pain and me loosing it. With my other miscarriages I didn't have any pain to start just blood. I can't keep doing this I'll drive myself mad but I can't stop!

@peachesandpippin I completely understand your stress! Would it help for you to book an early private scan for around 6 weeks? I've got mine booked through the recurrent miscarriage service for when I'll be 7 weeks and honestly it's the only thing keeping me sane. I know there's a chance I'll be told bad news as this has happened at every one of my other scans but at least I'll know

peachesandpippin · 17/04/2021 20:58

I have emailed a few places to book one today but this evening I had spot of blood and this is how it happened last time so I think I'm loosing this one too.

@worrybug93 I have been emailing with a company to pay for a scan but I'm unsure if I'll do it. You can't hear a heartbeat until 10 weeks due to national guidance and that's all I really want. It's a long time till June for the 12 week scan.

As for the bleeding I had one tiny spot and nothing since so I'm trying to be positive as it's my 30th on Tuesday and I don't want to ruin my birthday. My last miscarriage was 20th December and I didn't let it ruin xmas as I love that time of year.

You can’t hear a heartbeat but you can see a heartbeat in early pregnancy from around 6 weeks

peachesandpippin · 18/04/2021 12:07

@Iheartbed oh I didn't know that I assumed you didn't know anything. Maybe I will go then if I can be told it's heart is beating. Thank you.

I’m afraid I can’t offer any advice on how to stay calm in pregnancy after losses, i had 4 miscarriages in the last 12 months and am now 18 weeks pregnant.

I still check the loo roll and analyse every little twinge!

I would recommend an early scan for reassurance. I had one at 5+4 with EPU where we were able to see a perfect fluttering heartbeat! I then went on to have more scans, privately at 6+2, 7, 8+3, 9+4, 10+3, 11+6, and 13+4! Then had my nhs one at 14 weeks, and most recently another private one at 16+6!

We also paid privately to have a SAFE nipt test done instead of the nhs combined screening tests.

I feel I can now get my reassurance from feeling baby move and listening to the heartbeat with a Doppler.

I’m so sorry for your losses, but huge congratulations on your new pregnancy.

I also took a low dose (150mg) aspirin a day from 1dpo after doing lots of research on it, and feeling that after 4 losses I had nothing to lose. My midwife and consultant have both since agreed I should be on it and the consultant even said that if I hadn’t already been taking it he’d have started me on it. I’m now to stay on it until around 36 weeks.

Iheartbed · 18/04/2021 12:41

@peachesandpippin the reason they say you can’t hear a heartbeat is because the function they use to hear (Doppler) uses more energy in the sound waves, which would therefore go into the baby, and they don’t want to do that unless they absolutely have to

But they can still see it though using normal ultrasound

Best wishes to you x

peachesandpippin · 18/04/2021 12:47

@Moominmiss congratulations. I think I'm going to wait and see if this is a miscarriage or if I'm just driving myself mad and then book an appointment to see the baby. I know I'll feel better seeing it. I have IBS and I worry with every twinge if it's cramping or grips (sorry for to much info 😂)

This time I just felt like it's going to work and yesterday threw me. I'm worried I'm going to get an infection from all the wiping 😂

@Iheartbed thank you.
